Today the Clinical Islet Lab marked another milestone. Islet Isolation #2500. A tremendous amount of thanks to everyone who has supported and helped us along the way but most importantly to the donors and their families.

@neilmcg77 So very sorry to hear this Neil, thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
From recipient work up to donor identification and donation to islet isolation and transplant to post transplant care it takes an incredible amount of dedication, time, energy and ultimately care. Edmonton has the best team in the world performing this incredible work.
Lastly on a personal level these milestones come on the same week that 20yrs ago I walked into an lab with an opportunity. Since then I’ve had the chance to build not only a career but a passion and come to work everyday with the most most talented and dedicated team.
And what should not be forgotten is that for every transplant there is likely one other donor that likely does not... These donors help our program immensely to test and improve on techniques so that in the future we can expand our ability to assist all who live with T1D
Today our team accomplished 2 significant milestones. 300 patients to receive an islet transplant and the 700th allogeneic transplant procedure at a single center. The amount of work that goes into a single transplant is truly staggering (1/n)
