The intelligence community has covered up the nature and classification of the MKULTRA experiments for decades. Americans have been misdirected repeatedly and deserve transparency and accountability from the CIA. The intel community’s unwillingness to deliver the truth has fueled dangerous conspiracy theories and eroded public trust in the federal government. This hearing aims to explore the history of the MKULTRA experiments, how they have impacted Americans’ wellbeing, and how the intelligence community can win back trust.

I appreciate those of you who have reached out regarding the recent statements and events surrounding Contact in the Desert. While I was not present and cannot speak to specific claims being made, I can speak to something I have witnessed for years: the growing need for accountability, discernment, and mental health awareness within this community. There is an important difference between struggling with mental health challenges and engaging in persistent pathological behavior. The former deserves compassion, support, and appropriate care. The latter—particularly when it involves deception, manipulation, or repeated fabrication—cannot simply be excused under the banner of spirituality, contact, disclosure, or personal experience. Conflating these issues ultimately harms everyone involved. Over the years, I have spent countless hours working one-on-one with experiencers, whistleblowers, and individuals navigating profound anomalous experiences. Much of that work happens quietly and outside the public eye. I have sat with people through ontological shock, trauma, isolation, spiritual crises, and genuine struggles to make sense of extraordinary events. These individuals deserve thoughtful support, careful discernment, and communities that prioritize their well being. When obvious falsehoods, manipulative behavior, or demonstrably unreliable claims are continually enabled, excused, or celebrated, it does a disservice to those who are genuinely seeking understanding and healing. It also damages public trust and undermines the credibility of researchers, clinicians, experiencers, and advocates who are trying to do serious work in this space. Protecting the integrity of UFO research has always been a tenuous undertaking. We are dealing with subjects that are already difficult for the public to approach with an open mind. Every time sensationalism, deception, or unchecked behavior is elevated above evidence, discernment, and responsibility, it becomes harder for legitimate conversations to be taken seriously. Part of the reason I have stepped back from portions of this public conversation over the past several years is because I have become increasingly concerned about this dynamic. The field does not need more personalities. It needs more stewardship. It needs leaders willing to place the well-being of vulnerable individuals above attention, status, or entertainment. Many people entering this community are searching for answers during some of the most vulnerable periods of their lives. Some are dealing with trauma. Some are navigating transformative experiences. Some are struggling with mental health concerns. They deserve environments where critical thinking and compassion coexist—not spaces where harmful behavior is ignored because someone is charismatic, popular, or telling a compelling story. My only regret is that I did not speak more openly about these concerns sooner. We owe it to experiencers, whistleblowers, researchers, and the public to create a culture where discernment is valued, accountability matters, and vulnerable people are protected. If disclosure is ever to mean anything, it must begin with honesty—both about the phenomenon itself and about ourselves.
