Lionel Messi is the exact reason you should live solely on your own terms. The man speaks ill of no one. He disrespects neither teammates nor rivals. He is the best to ever do his craft. The answer is servant leadership. I’ll give you two scenarios. When Messi moved to PSG, in their championship league match against City, he laid down behind the wall to form a shield against low balls. He did not need to do that. But he did it anyway Now look at Ronaldo. In 2022, Erik Ten Hag wanted to bring him on in the 89th minute, after United were 2 - 0 against Tottenham. What did he do? He refused, then stormed off into the tunnel. This was United’s best performance maybe all season, yet because He wasn’t the star, he made a mess out of the whole thing. He was dropped from the squad the next game, and was fined about 2 weeks worth of wages (about £1m) Whether you think he had a right to do that or not is not my argument. I want you to look at the impact on his teammates. Imagine being under pressure for months at United, pundits saying all sorts about the team. Now you put up a performance against one of the big 6 and played really really well. You are hoping that some of the pressure finally eases up, only to see that the entire discussion that week was how the “star” of the team decided to throw a tantrum. Do you think any player in that squad will feel loyalty towards him? The point is that Messi considers himself a servant to the team, and would do whatever needs to be done to ensure the team succeeds, but for Ronaldo, it’s the opposite. Ronaldo considers his team a servant to his ambition, and would do whatever it takes, including throwing his teammates under the bus to get that next goal. It has obviously made both of them very decorated players, but only one of them will inspire a team to die for them on the pitch. That’s why it seems like the Portugal team seems disjointed and can’t seem to connect, and why the Argentinian team would die for Messi.

Man, I remember when they were both in their prime, a lot of people used to say Ronaldo would outlast Messi.
