Part 1: How I discovered gambling and why it looked like an opportunity. I started gambling in 2016, shortly after I moved to Lagos. A friend introduced me to it. Gambling was practically his livelihood, and I had seen him win several times. Watching him made me believe it was a smart side hustle, an easy way to make money every day. So I asked him to teach me how to bet, and he did. He showed me just one or two features on the betting platform. Since I was already a football lover, I figured out the rest on my own. At first, it was just for fun. I wasn't staking much because I was still learning. But a few months later, I had become familiar with almost every option on the betting site. That's when everything changed. I started staking larger amounts, and before I knew it, gambling was all I could think about. I completely overlooked the fact that I could have invested that same money into a real business or something that would have built my future. I kept telling myself, "If I can make at least ₦20,000 every week, imagine how much I'll have by the end of the year." That was the lie I believed.
