Yesterday I had the great pleasure of inviting soldiers to Parliament to mark the longstanding contributions of South Asians to our armed forces. During World War II, soldiers from pre-Partition India made up the largest volunteer army in history. Soldiers of all faiths and backgrounds stood side by side, in shared valour and solidarity, fighting for Britain and the very freedoms that we enjoy today. This history has previously been overlooked, so it was a deep honour to have the opportunity to zoom in on these stories.

Henry Nowak was brutally murdered in a senseless act of violence by Vickrum Digwa. The Sikh community stands with Henry's family and friends as they come to terms with his loss. We share the grief, shock and anger at his murder and stand with his family in the pursuit of truth and justice. We urge people to not allow the actions of this one murderer to divide communities and fuel hostility towards innocent people.

The antisemitic arson attack in Golders Green is horrifying. I’ve been in touch with Jewish community leaders this morning and will continue to do so throughout the day. An attack on our Jewish community is an attack on us all. We will fight the poison that is antisemitism.
