@rikarends I think you are right in that it will be complex and has to be thought through carefully. Some people propose taxing stock when it is used as collateral to buy other assets, which sounds like a reasonable start

@rikarends Using stock to avoid paying income taxes is the issue here. I’m sure this loophole can be plugged without preventing people from building billion dollar companies. Property taxes might be a good analogy

@rikarends Taxes are a way to prevent this enormous concentration of wealth from happening. They were as high as 90% in post war America - arguably the most prosperous time and place in human history. Government bloat is a problem, but not what this is about.

@rikarends With compounding returns on such a large amount of wealth you have almost no other option but to buy up more and more assets. This drives up asset prices (houses!) and eventually disowns most others in the process.

@dhh Silicon valley was created during a time of historically low wealth inequality. Countries with high wealth inequality don’t tend do very well.

@bunq @GergelyOrosz Thanks, good to know! I had a pretty poor experience because at some point all my transfers got delayed. Even smaller amounts between my own bunq accounts. There is also something to be said about the transparency of Monzo’s approach.
