Backstory the wife grew mushrooms in 20L buckets last year. One lot of oyster mushrooms failed for some reason, and she left it in the shed for about 11 months. At the right season it decided to grow, up past the lid which my rivnut set was sitting on.

The weirdest thing happened about a month ago, my rivnut set was upended and spilled all over the ground thanks to a mushroom of all things. I still haven’t recovered all the bits, my ability to do M12 rivnuts was taken away by a fungus.

@anthonyzenkus A simple logic test for those that don’t understand, flip it around, they invade us and do those things to us. Would that be acceptable? Or bring it down to a smaller scale, we attack our neighbour, destroy their house and kill the dad and son. Are we still the good guy?

@Reboticant It is possible the belt caused this and I am wrong, but it’s different to the old broken belt and multiple broken rockers from the last failure 7 months ago. This belt has ripped open by force. Shrapnel from the valve seat locked up the engine and only one broke rocker.

@Reboticant I cleaned up the piston with a file and emery paper, I think it’s survived. Splashed out on a Gates belt, pulley and tensioner. Have a new head on the way.

Only after this did I find a starter with 100,000 less K’s on it that I picked up from the wreckers. Brushes and everything in mine looked perfectly fine. Going to use it for a future project, maybe see how fast I can get it to drive a motorbike and then make an automatic gate.

Some years back I misfired the parts cannon at the Subaru and didn’t end up needing the starter motor. Fortunately its solenoid was identical to this one, So I swapped it over. This should hopefully resolve my intermittent no start issue.

Today’s activities. Starter motor reconditioning. Disassembled, cleaned and re-greased the starter motor which seemed to have a lot of fine sand in it, car had been plowing it up on the beach in a past life.

Here she is, Terk Box v1. 1 I'm working with the designer about future improvements, but for a first major revision and she's now "complete" We added more ventilation in the back so the RTX 5060 is no longer choked. HMU if you want me to build you one.

@raygbaytesphd Turns out a valve let go. Either a collet fell off, maybe valve springs were old and soft or the rocker adjustment was wrong and it bounced out of place.
