We don't go to work wanting to do harm, but with error it can be easy to point a finger & blame With a JUST CULTURE, incidents are investigated to determine WHY they happened rather than WHO was to blame Importantly what can be learnt & shared to reduce an error happening again

@WAAMBMEDIC Great thread. My thoughts: This is complex and nuanced. “Heads up” can mean different things. Can be anything from “I’m sharing information - no action required” to “Help - I am dealing with a difficult situation with limited information and don’t know what to do”

@WAAMBMEDIC For long distance retrieval, minutes rarely matter to patient outcomes - use those minutes to gather information and make considered decisions. High quality coordination is difficult, but by listening and communicating, you will make the right decisions most of the time.

@WAAMBMEDIC And everything in between. Language matters. Understand what the “Heads Up” issue really is - this requires skill, experience and often patience. Ask questions. Create shared plans. Close the loop. Respect and support those who call you for help.
