Not that anyone asked, but here's my take... Bazball worked initially because it was much easier to liberate players who had previously been shackled - Stokes, Root, Bairstow, Anderson, Broad etc. Plus there was a very experienced group of players in situ - see above. Bringing the next generation in who haven't had to "suffer" in the sense of playing the more traditional style of Test cricket means that they've ended up being too free and gone too far because they are not shedding any previous weight of what has happened to them playing the "old way". That, plus when you look at the current team - other than Stokes and Root, there's hardly a leader out there. Stokes used to have at least five other captains to lean on. Oh, and the fact that - like in all sport - teams were surprised initially, overwhelmed for a while and then figured out ways to fight back.

It's like watching someone dying,such is the state of English cricket. Chasing 373 they're now 170+for 6,but it's not just about this Test/series. With talisman Stokes retiring the current regime must follow suit. It's time for a fresh approach and a lot of patience.

1 - agreed 2 - I don't think any team ever has a full-strength team for a whole series of anything anymore 3 - agreed 4 - agreed, and what about the fact he is also whiteball? Can't sack him from one without the other 5 - agreed 6 - I don't think we'd want a seamless switch, if we are saying a change needs to be made it needs to be complete change of direction (not sure I am on that bandwagon yet)

Best thing that seems to have come out of this Test match. @finnysteve on ball-by-ball. I love the fact they've given him a chance to do it and he's done it very well indeed.
