Extreme Very British Challenges 1. Bring the emptied wheelie bin back in without having a quick peek inside first. 2. Place items on a shop counter without saying “just these, please”. 3. Pay for petrol without looking back out at the pump. 4. End a taxi journey without saying “anywhere here’s fine”. 5. Don’t apologise when someone bumps into you.

How to exit a shop you’ve entered by mistake: -Walk about for a few mins, ideally with hands behind your back, like a member of the Royal Family judging a vegetable competition at a village fete -Check a price tag -Furrow brow and say "hmm" -Check watch/phone -Thank nobody in particular -Leave and hang around outside the door for a bit, looking left and right up the street, so (a) you look like you’re wondering what other lovely shop to browse next like a normal casual person on a day out, and (b) to assure the shopkeeper you’re not a thief trying to make a quick escape.

Guide to going to the front of the queue to look at what’s at the counter (e.g. to see how many sausage rolls remain) without looking like you’re pushing in: 1. Stay slightly bent/stooped to look temporary. This helps a great deal. Standing straight will cause the queue to panic. 2. Squint and push your lips to the side to show you’re thinking. Keep your hand to your chin unless pointing at a specific item (note: only point if showing the queue you’re counting an item - in which case, count out loud quietly). 3. Go “hmm” and mutter to yourself a lot. Perhaps say, “Sorry, I’m just checking...” to nobody in particular. 4. If you have friends or family in the queue, use them by occasionally looking back and mouthing something or giving a thumbs up. This gives the rest of the queue great relief. 5. Say “okay” and retreat as soon as possible.

How to fix a computer: - Say "come on" at it - Mash a key 4-5 times, preferably space or escape - Look at the back, jiggle a wire (if it's a laptop: look underneath) - Act like life is now completely ruined - Accuse someone of “fiddling” or “messing around” with it - Walk away for a bit - It's working again now

There are two types of people: 1. People who decant their cereal, pasta and rice into glass jars 2. People like me who barely manage to seal the original packaging properly before stuffing their cereal, pasta and rice back into a far-too-full cupboard (full of all the opened pasta and rice packets they forgot they had) I’d like to become a number 1 but I don’t think it’ll happen in this lifetime.
