Learning to code: you now understand why you receive certain types of errors but not others from a website or an app.
Learning any new skill makes you observe the world differently. Even when you’re just a beginner. Learning to paint flowers: you will notice each one of them on a hike now, as if the world surreptitiously decided to grow them.

To add to this excellent advice: depending on the probability of failure and the impact, make sure to proactively communicate the risk and/or fortify the software. if (probability * impact) == high: fortify software else: proactively communicate
Good software engineers don't just make the software work, they also think about how it can fail and then handle those failure. Because if it can fail, it most likely will.

I got introduced to this field when our book club picked up “Nature of Code”. It’s become a fun side project since then! Coding had always been a tool to make computer DO things, so it’s been nice to make things for no reason other than it being fun!

@intricatecloud Tip on writing review for others: think about how their work enabled you. Don’t simply list their achievements — they can do it themselves. Rather, say, Person A worked on item B that helped me solve problem C. This also makes writing review easier for peers
@intricatecloud It’s also a great time to have a high level, longer term discussion with your devs/manager around career development beyond day to day tasks. Also, ideally, there should be a regular dialogue between manager and dev so a performance review does not come as a surprise to the dev
