This is me. I'm a former libtard whose friends and family are all still libtards in a city where everyone assumes you are a libtard. Gradually, over years, my Gell-Mann amnesia wore off. I realized I was being lied to about things I could easily verify myself. Every day there were true things I couldn't say and false things I had to say in order to maintain my relationships with my fellow libtards. There were many things I once believed that I came to realize weren't true, and I had to figure out how I was able to feel so confident, smug and superior while being totally wrong. There were chunks of history that I had never looked into very closely and the version I had believed was a myth that was contradicted by primary sources. But, yeah, spiritually maybe I'm still a libtard. I still like my friends and family. I think they're good people who haven't broken out of their own misinformation bubbles. They haven't quite come to accept that the things getting worse all around them are a direct result of their own voting patterns. But their revealed preferences - where they choose to live for instance - indicate that they're more aligned with my views than they are ready to admit. There's a kernel of innocence, kindness and naivete - the Myshkin that Doestoevsky was in his youth - that you want to try to preserve in yourself even as you come to understand the brutal, cruel, chaotic madness of the world as it truly is.

One of the wacky coincidences of our time is that there were close to zero woman mass shooters in all of history until recently, then women started mass shooting at the exact same time as men started becoming women Obviously totally unrelated, but a funny coincidence nonetheless
