Seeing how the laptop 5060 runs stuff at 6K (or rather doesn't), I'm pretty sure this is the cutoff resolution where you would actually see a 1.8-1.9x gain from 5080 to 5090. It's scaling almost linearly with cores x clocks, so many pixels, not even 4K does that.

@whitebearvt 5060 laptop (decent proxy to desktop 5050 given this is a lower power laptop variant) Complementary Potato 24 chunks 1440p 147 FPS 3K dualmode 116 FPS 4K 81 FPS 6K 35 FPS Without shaders 6K is like 200ish or more and tbh at least in MC the high res is really nice to have.

@whitebearvt They are, but the prices are less nice, especially in the current market. From a 980 anything will be over a 2x uplift in perf (and the much better video encoders too), though the ship has sailed on nicely priced 5060 Ti 16GB cards sadly. 😔

@whitebearvt Hey some lighter games you can tbh, at least with an “appropriate” tier of GPU. Minecraft with some lighter shaders (ComplementaryUnbound on High) is like 130-150 FPS on the 5090, Arknights Endfield maxed out with DLSS Quality is still locked 120 FPS (albeit barely).

Monitor so strong the 5090 died. Hopefully @amazon actually replaces it (since the repair success chance is basically nonexistent, seems like a dead core), since a refund will still be over 1k€ short of a new card.

In case anyone had doubts (or never got the newer info) that later DGX Sparks have a fixed display engine - 6K165 working fine on my Asus GX10, launch day stuff struggled to do 4K60 AFAIK you can RMA if you have an older model with unstable display out and it should get accepted

@PrantoNahid1 Probably tbh, also likely better value in general I don't have much of an opinion on the FALD/mLED monitors since afaik they all do PWM dimming per-zone, so I wouldn't be able to use them in FALD mode anyway.

Rear ambient light is PWM sadly. Dual-mode 3k330Hz works well, switching between inputs/dualmode is insanely fast. Needs to be cheaper, the full retail price is too high given it doesn't really have any standout features beyond just 6K pixel-spam, but great "no-BS" monitor 2/2

Oh my those new prices are absolutely insane @Hetzner_Online 47€ low end dedicated box is now >70€/mo lowest tier 2 core VPS is now 23€ up from 10€ I guess it was too cheap (and still is pretty damn good) but quite the whiplash from what I'm used to over the past decade.

The "new" Ryzen 3 3100U perfectly encapsulates everything I hate about AMD as of late, the Intel stagnation era was far less greedy than this 2019 Zen+ chip with EOL Vega GPU, cut down BELOW any Athlon Silver ever shipped and branded as Ryzen 3 presumably at R3 price Disgusting

@yes_nisusut @DanRunner42 I'd want something that is at least capable of browsing the web properly. This stuff doesn't belong in the market at all, especially not at a Ryzen 3 tier and price.
