97.5% of mass shootings in the United States are committed by men. When that happens, we don’t blame all men. We don’t turn their identity into the story. Yet now we’re seeing claims largely amplified from the U.S., but echoed by some far right influencers and Canadian politicians, including MLA Tara Armstrong in B.C. trying to suggest gender identity is part of the cause. Why? Because it’s politically convenient to demonize a small, vulnerable group instead of confronting the real issues: violence, mental health, and prevention.
