Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that everyone in the EU will need to use the EU's app for identity authentication before being able to access or post on social media websites. 🇪🇺 As an expert in online child safety, I am here to expose the misinformation and misdirection in von der Leyen's statements. Today von der Leyen said: "This is not about whether children can access social media, it is about whether social media can access our children". 💡The first part is true. This isn't about children. It's about surveillance and combating political dissent. A state that can't control its own citizens is more dangerous than a state rife with criminals. The second part is a PR soundbite that politicians are using like a campaign slogan straight out of 1984. 🇪🇺"The question is no longer if children face risks online, but what can we do to give children a safer start online". 💡No. You can't give children a "safer start" online any more than you can offline. In the offline world, the government doesn't enforce curfews or ban children from entering liquor stores, bars or restaurants. That's a parent's responsibility. The digital world should be no different. 🇪🇺"The age verification app is one of the tools to get it done". 💡This is a contradiction because she also said "It won't be foolproof". 🇪🇺"It's easy to use, it is privacy preserving and it is open source". 💡The app was compromised as soon as it was released. "Privacy-preserving" age verification is an oxymoron. You can't verify a person's age without verifying their identity. Where or how that age is shared afterwards is irrelevant. 🇪🇺"This is basically about putting back the power into the hands of parents". 💡More from 1984. The EU is doing the opposite. Parents are having their authority stripped by politicians who think they know better. Many parents are capable and unaffected by peer pressure, and they know how to use parental controls to block any app classified as 13+. Some teens are safe, their parents trust them, and the state has no business overruling that trust. 🇪🇺"We don't give our children keys to the car before they have their licence" 💡Comparing an app to a car is a false equivalence used to justify mass surveillance. Governments don't decide when a young person is ready for car keys, guardians do. 💡Forcing every adult and child into a biometric checkpoint just to use an app or website is not licensing drivers. It's the state seizing everyone's keys, locking the garage, and forcing every driver to ask a private company for permission to take a drive. 💡 This is a gross, unethical overreach that strips authority from parents while imposing state sanctioned identity verification on every adult who doesn't even have a child. 💡Additionally, people who pass a test, obtain a licence and drive a car aren't forced to use an app to constantly authenticate their suitability to drive. 🇪🇺"We do not let them buy alcohol until they are legally allowed" 💡False equivalence. We don't force every person to show ID at a shopping mall entrance just because a few people might buy alcohol with a meal at a restaurant. Some parents are okay with their 12 year-old going to the mall with friends while others aren't. Either way, it's their choice. Whatever irresponsible decisions some parents might make, every adult in the country shouldn't be forced to pay the price. 🇪🇺"It won't be foolproof" 💡This is all the proof we need to show that the EU and every government know that banning social media for teens won't protect them. When pressed by journalists about VPNs being used to circumvent a ban, politicians always state the ban isn't a silver bullet and will take time. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan went as far as to say "we know it's not the solution". 💡Either age verification works, or it doesn't. As a technical expert in this space, I can tell you there are no additional steps to take and no progress to be made. Either the approach does what it is supposed to do, or it's not fit for purpose. If they claim a bulletproof solution is coming, it can only mean one thing. They intend to ban or restrict VPNs to people who verify their identity. 🇪🇺"It will take time to invite the cultural change that is already taking shape in our society, just as it took time to outlaw drink driving, just as it took time to use seatbelts in the cars. Great change never happens overnight, but when it comes to our safety it is always worth it". 💡Comparing a social media ban and age verification to seatbelts is a completely broken analogy. Seatbelts are a safety feature that protects children while allowing them to travel in a car. A ban doesn't give kids a seatbelt. It kicks them out of the car entirely. 💡Instead of supporting parents who want to guide their own children through the digital world, this heavy-handed law strips away parental authority by banning the apps and websites that many parents are perfectly fine with and actively monitor. 💡Furthermore, enforcing these bans requires biometric age verification, which means forcing millions of adult citizens to scan their IDs, faces or credit cards just to browse the internet. That isn't a common-sense traffic law. 💡It's a digital checkpoint on every street. True safety means teaching kids how to navigate the digital world safely with real guardrails and parental guidance, not burning down digital spaces for everyone under the guise of protection. 🇪🇺☠️ The EU wants to ban teens from social media so every person is forced to verify their identity before they can read, share or post anything online. On a tendance à croire que l'IA de pointe restera un club fermé de labs américains. Le videur de ce club, Microsoft, vient d'y faire entrer un modèle chinois en libre accès, dans son produit phare. GitHub Copilot propose maintenant Kimi K2.7, un modèle de l'entreprise chinoise Moonshot AI. Un très bon modèle d'ailleurs ! C'est le premier modèle "open-weights" que GitHub propose en option officielle. Open-weights, ça veut dire que n'importe qui peut télécharger le cerveau du modèle et le faire tourner sur ses propres serveurs. Les poids sont publics, sur Hugging Face, sous licence libre. À l'opposé des modèles d'OpenAI ou d'Anthropic, qu'on utilise seulement à travers leur API, sans jamais voir ce qu'il y a dedans. Ce qui m'étonne, c'est le contexte. Microsoft a investi des dizaines de milliards de dollars dans OpenAI. Et là, dans son propre outil, elle range le modèle chinois juste à côté, moins cher que les options américaines du menu. Comme un supermarché qui met sa marque distributeur à hauteur des yeux, à côté de la marque premium qu'il finance. Microsoft ne fait pas ça par militantisme. Elle le fait parce que ses clients le demandent, et parce que le modèle chinois fait le job pour beaucoup moins cher. Quand l'acteur le mieux placé pour défendre le modèle américain propriétaire se met lui-même à vendre l'alternative chinoise, c'est qu'il a acté que, sur une grande partie des usages, le modèle branché derrière n'est plus un choix qui différencie. C'est un consommable qu'on remplace. Bien sûr, il reste un angle à surveiller. Le modèle tourne sur les serveurs Azure aux États-Unis, pas en Chine, et il est désactivé par défaut sur les comptes entreprise, un admin doit l'activer. La gouvernance de la donnée sur un modèle venu de Chine reste une vraie question. Mais ça ne change rien au signal de fond. Ce n'est pas une news produit. C'est le signal que la couche modèle, celle que tout le monde regarde, est en train de devenir la moins stratégique de la pile.

Énorme changement de paradigme. Les femmes aussi pourront bientôt avoir des enfants à n'importe quel âge. En parallèle, les progrès s'accélèrent sur la longévité. La démographie va changer brutalement et durablement en ce début de millénaire. À moyen terme, ça va accentuer les problèmes démographiques : moins d'enfants, population vieillissante, pas assez de travailleurs. On s'adaptera. On vivra des centaines d'années. On fera des enfants encore plus tard. Certains auront leur premier enfant à 110 ans, en bonne santé.

Taper une phrase sans clavier, sans implant, juste avec l'activité de son cerveau 🧠➡️✍️ Meta vient de faire passer cette idée de 8% à 61% de précision en un an, et a mis le code en ligne. La semaine dernière, Meta FAIR a sorti Brain2Qwerty v2. Le système lit des phrases entières directement dans le signal MEG, la magnétoencéphalographie, qui capte l'activité du cerveau depuis l'extérieur du crâne. Tout se passe dehors, sans la moindre chirurgie. 61% des mots tombent juste en moyenne. Le meilleur participant monte à 78%, avec plus de la moitié de ses phrases sans la moindre faute ou presque. Les meilleures méthodes sans implant plafonnaient à 8% il y a encore un an. Et le plus fou, ce n'est pas la lecture du cerveau. C'est ce qui tourne derrière. Le signal brut est bien trop bruité pour qu'on le lise tel quel. Alors le système empile trois étages : un module qui découpe le signal en fenêtres de 500 millisecondes, un transformer qui travaille au niveau de la phrase, et un modèle de langage qui corrige le tout. C'est la même famille d'IA qui rattrape vos fautes de frappe sur smartphone. Le cerveau donne un signal flou, l'IA reconstruit la phrase. Même approche que Midjourney Medical et Chipiron pour les scanners/IRM : les récents progrès de l'IA rendent des signaux faibles bien plus exploitables. Plus on enregistre de cerveaux en train de taper, mieux ça marche. La précision monte avec la quantité de données, c'est tout. Du coup le vrai verrou n'est plus la biologie, c'est la donnée. Et accumuler des tonnes de données, c'est exactement ce que Meta sait faire mieux que presque tout le monde. Autant dire qu'ils sont bien placés pour pousser cette courbe. Bon, il y a des limites, et pas petites. La MEG, c'est une grosse machine dans une pièce blindée magnétiquement, avec un sujet qui ne bouge pas d'un cil. On est très loin du casque qu'on enfile sur son canapé. Et les tests portent sur des volontaires en bonne santé, pas sur des patients. 39% des mots restent faux, on est encore loin des implants. La première application, elle est médicale, et tant mieux. Redonner la parole à ceux qui l'ont perdue après un AVC ou un accident. Meta a d'ailleurs mis le code d'entraînement en open source pour que d'autres labos s'y attellent. Mais une fois la techno mûre et miniaturisée, qui parie que les devs ne seront pas les prochains à taper sans clavier ?

am I the only one who sees the potential here, or am I completely off base? AI agents are highly efficient now, but they need human input to make a real difference. This is especially true for marketing content, though it applies across the board. I don't believe the "human-in-the-loop" model will be limited to email, Slack, or other visual interfaces in the future. there is an interface that is far more efficient, faster, easier, and richer than text: the human voice. to me, it’s a no-brainer: agents requiring rich information from humans will simply ask for it verbally. I might be going about marketing Raconte.ai all wrong, but I am convinced that this type of solution is going to gain serious traction. what am I doing wrong?

Totalement hors sujet ! La France ne deviendra pas une puissance de l'IA en ajoutant quelques centaines de millions d'euros d'argent public de plus. Le problème n'est pas le manque d'argent. Le problème, c'est que nous continuons à compliquer la vie de ceux qui créent, investissent, innovent et prennent des risques. À chaque retard technologique, la réponse est la même : un plan, un comité, une mission, un rapport, une enveloppe budgétaire. Comme si la Silicon Valley était née d'une circulaire administrative ! Ce dont la France a besoin, ce n'est pas d'un État plus présent dans l'économie. C'est d'un État moins présent dans la vie de ceux qui entreprennent. Moins de normes. Moins de taxes. Moins de bureaucratie. Plus de liberté. Plus de capital. Plus de vitesse. Les géants technologiques mondiaux n'ont pas été créés par une volonté politique. Ils sont nés dans des écosystèmes qui récompensent l'ambition, valorisent le risque et attirent les capitaux. Voilà 50 ans que la France répond à presque tous ses problèmes économiques par davantage d'intervention publique. Et voilà 50 ans que nous regardons les autres prendre de l'avance. En quelle langue faudra-t-il leur expliquer que cette stratégie nous mène dans le mur ?
