JUST IN: DOJ Blows Open Chinese Money Launder Scheme The Department of Justice has exposed a Chinese money laundering scheme in New York that was carried out by more than a dozen co-conspirators. Federal prosecutors have charged two New York residents over operating a Chinese money laundering network that moved more than $43 million stolen from victims of online investment scams. According to an unsealed indictment, Zhuoying Chen, 27, of Brooklyn, and Haojie Zhang, 38, of Queens, managed a network of more than a dozen individuals who opened 140 bank accounts through roughly 45 shell companies. Chen and Zhang made their initial appearances in federal court on Thursday. They were charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
