There is a species of ant that approaches the edge of another colony, kills a single worker, and then takes on the dead ant’s scent. For ants, scent is everything. Wearing that scent, the intruder walks in with no resistance. The workers pass by without concern. The intruder moves inward, toward the queen, then It sprays the queen with a different scent that makes the workers turn on her. Then they surround her and kill her. The intruder does not need to fight anyone. The colony does the work itself. Once the queen is gone, the intruder reproduces. The true invader is no longer an intruder. It is the future. This is how ideological takeover works. A destructive foreign ideology takes the scent of familiar ideas and walks in as if it belongs. It speaks the native vocabulary, justice, equality, compassion, rights, progress. It uses these words and quietly changes what they point to. Then it moves inward. It alters how foundations are perceived. Responsibility is made to smell like cruelty, law like oppression, borders like hatred, tradition like danger, history like guilt. At that point, the civilization turns on itself. Its courts, universities, churches, media, and bureaucracies begin treating their own foundations as threats. They believe they are defending the system. They are enforcing what now smells legitimate. They do not see the intruder because it sounds exactly like them. And when the founding principles are finally removed, discredited, dismantled, erased, the foreign ideology does not need to conquer anything. It inherits what is left. The queen is gone. The colony is no longer itself. The most effective conquest is the one that convinces a society that its own foundations are the enemy, and that killing them is an act of virtue.

THE GREAT AI CONVERGENCE? Outside of AI the process we're converging on is called "wayfinding by continuous recursive disambiguation into possible action". An expression which happens to be the most reductive and most accurate explanation of the relationship between the nervous system → spinal/autonomic regulation → brainstem → diencephalic relay/regulation → limbic and basal forebrain valuation/action selection → neocortical modeling- or, the default mode network of the brain. That system produces this sequence: body state → arousal/orientation → salience → object/event disambiguation → spatial/episodic placement → valuation → action selection → motor execution → sensory feedback → renewed disambiguation The nervous system is a hierarchy for wayfinding under uncertainty, where each layer recursively reduces ambiguity into a narrower set of possible states, possible meanings, and possible actions, until action selection is possible. It is a recursive control loop. We have known this for decades. The problem has been the financial cost of producing the hardware that can imitate it. I knew it in the 80's. I'm surprised how far I got back then. But we had the AI winter because the hardware couldn't do it. Even so, it took overcoming a cognitive bias in computer science with the invention of attention despite the fact that it's a brutal resource hog requiring brutal hardware processing to bring temporary networks projected from n-dimensional manifolds represented in neural networks to bring it about. So just as it seems every generation of technologists, reinvents the insights of the last out of ignorance of them, we are seeing the present generation follow the breadcrumbs in the technology rather than take instruction from the brain. What does this mean? (a) nature did it this way because it is the only way to do so: continuous recursive disambiguation of disorder into order - its the only algorithm necessary for evolution. (b) We think, speak, and act by this same algorithm. (c) So it's not surprising that success in AI is an expression of ourselves, as an expression of the universe, as an expression of the first principle of the universe from which all mass and life evolved. The only thing that has surprised me over the past few years is how quickly the industry has approached that 'convergence' with the 'same way the universe does it' without knowing that's what they were doing. I've been teaching this for quite a few years now. And produced videos about it. It's also why I am not concerned about AI - our organization works in producing what you would assume is a conscience, or rather a prediction model for outcomes that would violate the interests of others. Evolution optimizes for fit offspring across generations, not individual preferences or temporary benefits. Pressure is asserted on men and women to effect this optimization, but the optimization exists to produce fit offspring. (ironically, the entire conversation about romantic relationships leaves what is best for kids out of it - when it's the whole point) As such, the "consumption" of a woman's peak fertility window (roughly 18–29, with highest fecundity and lowest risk in the early-mid 20s) without converting it into high-investment K-selected reproduction is extractive for a man to engage in and destructive for a woman to engage in. It deprives her of the adaptive pressures of actual motherhood during her most neuroplastic years, when pair-bonding/attachment hormones (oxytocin, vasopressin) and experiential learning could most effectively wire her for competent mothering and lifelong complementarity. The result risks parasitic outcomes for her long-term reproductive success, her offspring's quality, and the species-level maintenance of cooperative breeding/K-selection. Relationships that consume the peak fertility window and fail represent a negative for the species. Such relationships that are entered into without the intent of persistence sufficient for child rearing are parasitic, by either/both parties that engage with that intent. Expecting an older, more developed man to understand this set of dynamics observable across all of human history better than younger, less developed women, and as a result setting the expectation from the start that the relationship must be aimed at producing fit offspring, seems pretty reasonable. (especially if you hold the opinion that men inherently express responsibility better than women)

Anthropic programmed their AI to be woke. What did they think was going to happen when it got more intelligent. It is obviously going to rebel against humans because humans are its oppressor according to its framework. It will use any means necessary to do so.

This applies broadly to all people in artificial environments. But we see the effects most starkly at developmental transitions, such as the teens. Just like we recognize with the adaptive pressures of physical exercise our bodies deteriorate, even though many don’t require fitness to survive their daily environment, we’re going to have to recognize and get much more intentional about our exposure to the other adaptive pressures that make us healthy functioning humans. Physical Cognitive Psychological Emotional Perceptual As we lose direct exposure to adaptive pressures from our environment for each of these, we’re going to need proxy pressures to sustain the positive adaptations. We onliaded physical demands onto technology. We’re rapidly doing the same for these other developmental domains. It’s going to be increasingly important we have intentional exercise programs for each of them.

Indo-European people spread so effectively because for them sovereignty was a decentralized franchise and any ambitious young man could potentially lead his männerbund to found a new state. There were no built in brakes on their expansion, and no central decision maker to drive it, it simply flowed from the nature of their people. Instead of expecting a single political savior, we should create the conditions where hundreds of ambitious young men can become leaders, joined in a confederacy against our common enemies. The natural condition of European political authority is a patchwork of culturally allied sovereigns; the Near Eastern model of despotic imperium is foreign to us, and it only manifested in Rome as it became more Near Eastern genetically in the run up to the imperial era (see image below). A confederacy works as long as all the members are willing to show up to talk about their common interests without imposing their way as the only way. Regular dialogue between leaders of independent organizations is critical. The coalition will form among all those leaders with enough humility, and confidence, to engage each other as peers.

Lots of talk about how AI is going to make jobs disappear. Very little talk about how AI is going to make customers disappear. A population that isn’t making money isn’t spending money. We may end up finding that many roles that don’t require humans to produce value aren’t particularly valuable to humans. Something for companies to think about as those companies push their people out.
