Happy Birthday, America! 250 years old today. Two and a half centuries of big ideas, bad decisions, reinventions, fireworks, arguments, road trips, moonshots, gas station coffee, constitutional debates, backyard grills, and at least one uncle treating every cookout like a Senate hearing. America has never been neat. It’s messy. Loud. Brilliant. Stubborn. Generous. Contradictory. Occasionally ridiculous. Often exhausting. But somehow, through wars, depressions, scandals, disasters, bad hair decades, and whatever the 1970s were trying to accomplish with carpet, it’s still here. Still standing. Still arguing. Still trying to become the thing it promised on paper. Complicated as hell. Still ours. 🇺🇸

Happy Father’s Day! Here’s a little advice from a Gen-X dad whose boys are now grown, employed, and solid men. Stop stressing over the perfect parenting style. Take a breath. We did not raise future adults by treating every vegetable, bedtime, shoe, and chore like a constitutional crisis requiring a 45-minute town hall meeting. I never once validated my kids feelings about broccoli, and somehow civilization continued. Sometimes “because I’m the dad” was a complete sentence. That doesn’t mean be cruel. It means be steady. You’re not raising a peer, a roommate, or a tiny board member with veto power. You’re raising someone who eventually has to stand on their own two feet. So put down the parenting panic manual, pick up a little stoicism, love them hard, hold the line, and let them figure some things out. The job isn’t to make every moment comfortable. It’s to teach them enough that one day they can pay their bills, handle life, and maybe even remember to call on Father’s Day without a federal reminder. Your future self will thank you.

The Anthropic Fable/Mythos access drama feels like the Crypto Wars reboot. As an old Gen-Xer, this feels familiar. Back in the 1990s, we had the Crypto Wars (not cryptocurrency) where strong encryption was treated like a weapon and developers fought over whether publishing code counted as free speech. The Bernstein case helped establish the code as speech argument. Now we’re watching the argument rhyme again, only this time it’s not encryption code. It’s access to advanced AI models. Different decade. Different technology. Same government instinct to show up late, misunderstand the machinery, and start labeling everything hazardous.
