We know that the draft bill raises the prospect of private prosecutions being brought by groups such as GLP. I'd be interested in Dennis's view on whether human rights charities such as Sex Matters could also bring private prosecutions for conversion practices (eg, against the parents of Baroness Cass's two and a half year old child who was caused to believe he had a transgender identity, and socially transitioned, by his parents when he was clearly not of an age to decide this himself and whose emotional and physical wellbeing have clearly been significantly negatively impacted). Is this bill, if passed as it is, not potentially going to result in huge amounts of litigation from 'both sides'??

@betsvigi9 @JamesEsses 40 days have passed. But the minister still has discretion over when she issues the commencement order and the 2011 code is revoked. She could delay this code becoming statutory as long as she wants. And I have a strong feeling she might.

Two and a half. This unfortunate little boy was "socially transitioned" by his parents before he was three years old, and is now profoundly damaged, and terrified of being "outed" as the boy he is. This is child abuse. It must stop.

Most gay people, thankfully, are very comfortable with their sex and their sexuality. An extraordinarily high percentage of adolescents referred to GIDS, with many comorbidities, were same-sex attracted. A gay clinician there feared that they were 'transing the gay away'. Do you understand that there are parents who would wish to wait, rather than 'affirming' their child's 'gender identity' (and possibly have them access drugs that cause irreversible effects) to see whether their child is gay rather than trans? Would such parents be accused of 'conversion practices' for "causing that child not to believe they have a transgender identity"? You keep dodging this question, Tris, or giving vague answers (not supported by the wording in the Draft bill) such as "open-ended questions will not be criminalised". There are NO carve outs for parents in this proposed legislation. You really need to think about the potential consequences of this Bill.

The Tribunal has reached and is expressing a view that a trans person’s requests are of more value than the person or persons who do not wish to comply with them. It has reached and is expressing the view that compliance with preferred pronouns is *only* a matter of respect and that respect is *only* due to the trans person.

Oof. This @TimesRadio interview with Green Party Mayor of Hackney Zoe Garbett is pure second-hand embarrassment. When pushed, she says trans women in Hackney should be able to use women's spaces. But she spends most of the interview trying not to actually say that. Presumably because she knows the legal and political difficulties with doing so. Instead, she deflects to domestic violence, claims the Supreme Court ruling doesn't protect women, and repeats that "trans women are women" and face high levels of sexual violence. None of which engage with the substance of the question - or the law.
