A 1989 rat study found that alcohol only caused severe liver damage when paired with high-linoleic-acid fats (like corn oil/seed oils). The same amount of alcohol with saturated fats (tallow or lard) caused little or no damage—and saturated fats even reversed existing damage. The post argues seed oils are the key “fuel” that makes alcohol toxic to the liver.
Seed oils are what turn a drink into liver damage, and the experiment proving it was run in 1989. Same alcohol, same dose, three groups of rats. The only variable was the cooking fat in the feed. Tallow: none of the features of alcoholic liver disease. Not one. Lard: minimal
