Third, you can buy from more than just one store, meaning competitive pricing, sales, and incentives. Not hard to figure out.

@TheRealJTV4K60 A large number of games are DRM free even on Steam. You don't need the Steam client to play. Or just buy games from GOG.com and they're 100% DRM free. Plus you can create your own cache server and also play your games on any PC at any time.

@videoApothecary And Sony will tie exclusives to the PS5/6 an never port them over to PC. But I can't imagine there'd be that many games making it worth buying a PS for. As long as GTA6 comes to PC. Otherwise that makes GTA6 a $1000 game.

@VisualFidelity Physical discs were one of the last positive aspects to differentiate a console. If you're going digital, just get a PC now. At least the bulk of PC games you own forever, can back them up and use them on any other PC at any time.

@Melee1988 Steam is not forced DRM, it is the decision of the game developer. Many games from Steam you can play without the Steam client. You can also backup your games and play them on any PC you want, anywhere. Same library, play on my laptop, desktop, living room PC, at friends' house

@tygryske What I enjoyed most about physical discs were the extra goodies & reading material & look good on a shelf. But all that disappeared over a decade ago. I don't like relying on the cloud to host my game collection though. I'd rather have a physical & digital backup that I control.

@DanFriedman81 DVD's maybe. But commercial Blu-Ray are very robust. Like a record, they physically stamp the pits. The shell is hard and very durable, scratch and resistant to fogging or fade. So unless you bury your disk in the dirt, and keep it in living temps and humidity, they will keep.

@Flynn176854 GOG gets plenty of quality titles. And there's tons of Steam games that you can play without needing the Steam client too. The Steam client also adds value, not just a storefront to sell you games.

@TheNCSmaster They want to double/triple dip. Release on current gen consoles. In a year release on PC with some upgrades, so many same people will buy again for PC. Then when new consoles release, another copy.
