Although wildlife may appear cute, feeding them can be dangerous for both you and the animals. Animal bites are a common source of serious infections and can occur through contact with an infected animal, a contaminated surface, or its habitat. Bites and scratches pose a significant risk of illness, including rabies, which primarily spreads through bites or scratches from infected wild animals such as raccoons, skunks, or foxes. To protect yourself, your family, and your pets, it's best to keep a safe distance from wildlife. As warm weather and the hiking season are in full swing—especially here in Tennessee, where ticks thrive in grassy and wooded areas - it's crucial to take the necessary precautions. We want to remind you that tick bites can lead to serious illnesses, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, and alpha-gal syndrome. Despite being curable within 8 to 12 weeks, Hepatitis C causes more deaths among Americans than any other reportable infectious disease, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. They estimate that approximately 2.4 million people are currently living with the disease. The CDC recommends universal Hepatitis C testing for all adults aged 18 and older. May 19th is recognized as Hepatitis Testing Day to raise awareness and encourage individuals to know their status. PRODUCT RECALL ALERT: The FDA is reporting Blackstone Products’ voluntary recall of their Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning products due to potential salmonella contamination. This decision comes after a powdered milk manufacturer recalled their product. While there have been no illnesses reported due to consumption, the FDA states customers who have the product should not consume it and dispose of it immediately. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a free program that supports families from prenatal through kindergarten, providing guidance, screenings, and resources to boost child development and confidence in parenting. For their group connection this May, PAT brought their families together for a special event over at Reflection Riding! They shared lunch, explored Reflection Riding’s natural playscapes, and learned about animal conservation with our amazing guides Paige and Paul.
