But they expect some products to contain flour fortified with folic acid from autumn 2025." "So the background in some ways goes back to the First World War, when people were worried about nutrition, people were hungry and starving. And so a decision was made to add, calcium, niacin, phymin, into flour, which was only shortly after the 1875 Food and Drugs Act had said that nothing should go into flour, that flour should be pure. Within decades it was already being overturned. There was a UK nutrition board report in the 80s which was very very thorough and set out quite clearly that the niacin, thiamine and calcium was NOT evidence based and should be removed from the flour and it was probably doing more harm than good and yet since then the dosages have only gone up. So that kind of sets the sort of background in terms of this idea that things can be put into flour despite legislation once upon a time saying the opposite."

Since then, Bash Back has expanded into cells, hacking the Free Speech Union, dumping donor lists, and targeting the EHRC so aggressively staff had to move offices. Yet Labour spends more energy demonising “TERFs” than confronting the extremists making MPs and watchdog staff physically unsafe. If a right‑wing group smashed Wes Streeting’s office over trans policy, Starmer would be doing emergency statements from behind a podium branded “Defending Democracy”. Because the threat comes dressed in progressive language, we get security briefings and platitudes, but no serious reckoning with how activist violence is warping the boundaries of political argument.

The fact this is also a Police investigation makes it even worse. To repeat personal stories about her; and using phraseology such as an ‘ old maid’ and more .. She was a very clever, intellectual, conviction politician who had more decency in her than most people I’ve ever met. She was kind and thoughtful and would never hold a grudge with anyone when differing views were held ..
