Dengue cases in Sri Lanka have risen sharply in 2026, with nearly 37,000 cases recorded by 8 June following heavy rains and flooding. "I used all my savings to treat my son, who is affected by measles. I took out a loan, and that money was also exhausted. Then, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (@BDRCS1) provided me with BDT 10,200 (~USD 83), which really helped. I am continuing my son's treatment with this support.” Sojib Barman's 9-month-old son had contracted measles and had been admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka. For more than a month, Sojib cared for him in different hospitals. The boy has not fully recovered yet, and due to Sojib's prolonged absence from work, he lost his job. @IFRC and BDRCS have provided cash assistance to more than 2,400 measles-affected families who lost income, faced livelihood challenges, and struggled to access adequate treatment. This measles response was made possible through the IFRC Disaster Response Emergency Fund (@IFRC_DREF) and its partners.

As the Bundibugyo strain outbreak continues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, the Central African Republic is strengthening preparedness in high-risk areas through this @IFRC_DREF operation to reduce the risk of cross-border transmission.
