@atelicinvest @BillBrewsterTBB Will vary by individual and that’s my point I agree re: dangers of market timing, just think you can hold cash for other reasons. A low vol 1% real return can have a place in a portfolio where bulk of assets are earning a higher vol 6% without ever needing to rebalance.

@atelicinvest @BillBrewsterTBB Different people will solve differently and that’s good. my only cautionary tale given the great trailing returns we’ve seen in markets in last decade is to make sure being 100% invested isn’t just a function of what worked best most recently.

@atelicinvest @BillBrewsterTBB Fair points. ;tldr of mine is we know volatility of returns causes investors to do irrational things sometimes and cash being a dampener of vol can be useful. My “out of the game” isn’t BK, it’s more “abandoning a sensible strategy at the wrong time.”

@BillBrewsterTBB @atelicinvest Yep need to think about consequences of the left tail. *Almost* doesn’t = always. If a ‘29-‘32, ‘73-74, ‘08-‘09 takes you out of the game/forces a change in style at the wrong time it can be devastating vs the mild annoyance of leaving an extra pt of returns per year on the table

@TreyHenninger @thepupil11 The one difference I’d flag is timing you typically receive the forms later. Think mid/late March (or sometimes later) vs earlier for 1099. Can occasionally delay your tax filing or require amendments.
