@_night_brain__ I do wish england had heritage corporate first class cricket teams like on the subcontinent. Surrey v. Lloyds of London. Gloucestershire v. British Steel. Hants v. NHS.
@mattylufc_@thomasguy789 In fairness, I imagine all the bangladesh players want to play at Lords since it will probably be their only opportunity. But it should be a two test series with one in the north
@LemanWalters Unfortunately parenting will not just get better on its own. Obviously ideally yes parents would take responsibility but given that they mostly currently are not I am satisfied to just throw up my hands and say 'not my problem, maybe they should have parented better'
@LemanWalters I would guess <0.5% of kids use the Internet for 'auto didactic' purposes which we would wish to encourage. And I dont think in say 10 years it will have meaningfully constrained political discourse at all.
@LemanWalters I dont see what other plausible explanation there is for the decline of youth reading (and youth touching grass, rise in youth loneliness), other than social media.
@LemanWalters Of course they arent - but unfortunately today's children are not using the Internet to download war and peace, they are destroying their minds on tiktok. The level of surveillance probably is unprecedented, which is not ideal, but the alternative is probably worse
@LemanWalters Whatever second order effects those are I doubt they are worse than future generations having their brains turned to mush and being incapable of reading a book.
@SebMilbank To be fair, except the wishy-washy 'respect', the rest of these are actually good and plausible as British values. Though yes they should be more historically grounded.
@si_rubinstein , then that of the factory owner. But instead we get 1945 as year zero because Labour was grounded in a semi-socialistic philosophy almost as contemptuous of bourgeois rule as of aristocratic.
@si_rubinstein I think it derives from the broken line of tradition when Labour usurped the Liberals. If the Liberals had simply become the working class party, then there could be a continuous discourse - first we were delivered from the tyranny of the king, then that of the gentry... (1/2)
@breadandposes Do you think we are conducting shadow invasions or something, that we in fact deposed the government of Burkina Faso its just being covered up? The point is that high energy prices at the moment are caused by Ukraine and Iran, two wars we had nothing to do with starting.
