The company I booked for this gorilla charged me 80,000 and insisted I must pay them. I told them clearly that I needed the gorilla from 11am to 4pm. These people showed up at our agreed time and the battery for the costume wasn’t working. God, I wasn’t happy. 😩 I told the woman that immediately she confirmed my booking, she was supposed to check that her equipment was in good condition. She asked me, “How am I supposed to know that the battery wasn’t working?” I was like… madam, that is exactly why you check your equipment before coming for someone’s event. We waited until 3:20pm before they finally brought another costume. This guy entered the gorilla and OMO! He was GOOD! Within that one hour, he pulled a crowd, entertained people and created so much attention for us. After one hour, the company came and said they were done. I said, “I no gree o. Who performs for 1hr for 80,000?” 😂 We argued and the woman eventually left angrily with her costume. But I wasn’t done. I called the guy inside the gorilla and asked him how much they pay him to wear the costume. He said 5,000. 5,000???? 😭 I was shocked because this guy is a really good dancer. He entertained the crowd for one solid hour and did exactly what we needed. So I told him, “Come and work for me.” I’m going to buy my own costume and he’ll be wearing it for us whenever we have marketing. And no, I’m not paying him that meager 5,000. I’ll pay him like I pay my staff. The guy kept saying, “God bless you ma. God bless you ma.” Honestly, sometimes what looks like a bad experience can lead you directly to an opportunity. I went looking for a gorilla. I came back with my own gorilla dancer. Now I can activate whenever I want without paying another company 80k every time. Business is really about looking for opportunities everywhere.
