@Drazon333 This boss is a banger on it's own but it's placed in the worst possible game for it. "Spend 30 minutes making your own build in a rougelike just to fight me MY WAY" If this was in elden ring it would be an easy S tier fight for me.
@Osher1One Embodies everything that a spectacular boss fight should be. Which is insane considering how iffy most of the bosses in the game were.
A once in a lifetime experience

Initially I was planning to not use ako sugar and divine confetti but I got bored and decided to switch it up. Second time doing this run and it certainly wasn't worth it lol. Anyways shit was light work did not struggle at all.

Bloodborne is actually the LEAST you can play whatever way you want in the souls series. It's critical path structure and build variety is the most limiting and linear in all the games with a streamlined combat structure that pushes you towards playing a specific style.
@wydomw Sekiro is flat out not an RPG, it’s a pure action-stealth experience. So I do not count it when talking about the mainline souls series but the critical level progression is less linear than bloodborne. As an overall package I think Sekiro is better than all the games.

I don't know if I properly communicated my thoughts, but this is one of my favorite examples of the type of story telling that can be told through a fight without ever needing dialogue or background information.
With no cutscene, or a fog-entrance to anticipate it, you can go in blind and still experience the different stories that are told through this fight. From the turn around roar until the mating call at the end, FS told an amazing story that's communicated by fighting an ape.
Guardian Ape deserves extra flowers with how many memorable moments and emotions it brings out from the player through out the fight while also setting up different story beats that's topped off with a immersive and non-stop action experience.
I enjoyed Sekiro's non-fog-entrance approach when it came to it's bosses. It went a long way in making the experience immersive and also quite diegetic. Not to mention memory bosses make a stronger first impression by having unique entrances.
@Exquis1t3 Nah I'd say DS3 has more "you can play any way you want". Which mainly stems from the larger build variety and lesser linearity.
@ElTyoPepe Being expected to play a certain way isn't bad on paper, but the RPG elements now don't dictate your playstyle, they just limit the amount of toys you get to use while playing that style.
@ElTyoPepe The linearity of the game is not, just a design choice. The limited build variety paired with the reduced RPG elements are bad, because their so limited they don't serve the game at all and even hinder it at certain spots. Swap them out with something else and not much is lost.
@KitexKite Yea the older games needed to load things in levels and fog-gates helped in that

@KitexKite There isn't to my knowledge, the fromsoft games don't really need to have fog-entrances anymore. Their mostly in elden ring because it's a staple now.
