Iraq Future Center @IraqFCDS

Attention is focused on Iraqi PM Ali Al-Zaidi, who has arrived in Washington for an official visit widely regarded as the most sensitive milestone in U.S.–#Iraq relations in years. #Washington views the trip as an opportunity to redefine the framework of its relationship with Baghdad, with reducing Iranian influence and curbing armed factions at the top of its agenda. Iraq, meanwhile, seeks to establish a stable strategic partnership that safeguards its security and economic interests. The outcome of this visit will not only shape the future of Baghdad–Washington relations but could also redefine Iraq’s regional position in the period ahead. Yet its success will ultimately depend on domestic political will. Many of Iraq’s dominant political parties maintain armed wings, and some are already under U.S. sanctions. Once the Washington visit concludes, Al-Zaidi’s greatest challenge will be translating its outcomes into realities on the ground.

Baghdad 19/1/2025 Asuda Organization, in collaboration with the Iraq Future Center for Democracy Support and with the support of Equality Now, held a dialogue and consultative session on: "Contentious Laws in the Parliament and the Position of Civil Society" With the participation of a selected group of parliament members, university lecturers, organizational representatives, and dignitaries from religious institutions.
