A very special member of the family returned home today, reunited with his wife and family after 400 years. Sir Allen Apsley, Lieutenant of the Tower of London, Victualler to the Navy, and one of the founders of The New England Company in 1620. He died in 1630. Why is this important to us? Because he is a huge figure in the family history, he was a delightful man and he was married to Lucy St John, whose portrait hangs in our home. To date we did not know of the existence of any paintings of him, and it was a gap we thought we’d never fill. This all came about thanks to my dear friend @ElizStJohn and the Friends of @LydiardPark, who take care of Lucy St John’s family home. They let us know he was being sold. It has been a special moment to reunite Allen and Lucy, and they are once again together - never to be separated. I’m really happy to be a part of that. Made me quite emotional. I think they may just be smiling a little more tonight. Welcome home Sir Allen. It’s been too long.

@daniel_barnett @LBC Given the disdain for law and lawyers why would he or they care unless it might serve their own ends? Law is an inconvenient truth to all politicians. Shame so many are or were lawyers; allegedly.
