This law is suspended through August, and America is divided on whether this helps or harms us… I’m talking about the Jones Act, a maritime law from 1920 that requires U.S.-made, owned, flagged, and operated ships to move important cargo between U.S. ports—no foreigner adversaries—but since Trump suspended that law this spring, China, the international shipping dominator, can move on into our local shipping. How much of a national security and economic problem might this be? Others argue the law is outdated and should be permanently repealed in part because it creates an unfair shipping disadvantage and unnecessary costs for non-continuous U.S. states.
