Chad, if the PGA Tour are investors with a board seat and own a percentage of the company then they are owners too, whether you like the word owners or not. Who you are trying to fool here? Why go against Red when he is telling the truth? But this is not what's really important here. You have been fronting about the journalism involved in that article. I guess you are talking about tabloid journalism. Yes, some journalism rules were used in the making of the article except for the second rule in the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics: MINIMIZE HARM "Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect. Journalists should: Balance the public’s need for information against potential harm or discomfort." *"Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance or undue intrusiveness." *"Show compassion for those who may be affected by news coverage." Did you show compassion for the family of Phil Mickelson? For the angst and embarrassment you have caused his wife and kids? Never mind causing a divorce and breaking up a family if that were to happen. No, you guys didn't thought of that. You guys only thought of doing Mickelson harm and publicly embarrass him but for what, revenge, to notch another victory in this stupid golf war? What was the purpose of the article? If it was to show that he has made bad decisions and he's a flawed man? Well join the line right behind Tiger and Phil. Was it to show that he is fake? Well, you should join that line too, right behind Tiger and Phil. You guys didn't minimize harm because that was exactly what you wanted to cause, harm. The reality is that this was not real journalism (although like I said some rules were observed) this was tabloid journalism, a good ole' hit job. The same tabloid journalism that has been used against Tiger Woods for decades but contrary to that tabloid journalism used against Tiger Woods in the past by the likes of the National Enquirer and other well known tabloids, this time it was your company a so called golf media company against a professional golfer that's been deemed the #1 enemy of one of your own investors and board seat holders at a time when the Co-Chairman of the PGA Tour Enterprises and Lead Player Director of the PGA Tour board the company that owns part of your company just came back from cutting short his 90 day Opioid addiction rehab and conveniently at a time when the tour where Mickelson plays is actively looking for new investors. So please go somewhere else with the claim you did clean journalism and you didn't have any bad intentions with that article when you clearly did. I must emphasize again, you didn't thought of the harm you are causing to his wife, kids, and family, you just thought of the harm you were causing him, that's breaking the journalists code of ethics. It is not like Mickelson is a menace to the public and driving under the influence like Tiger has multiple times putting the general public at risk. That right there deserves all the coverage available because lives are at stake. What Mickelson did was already known in golf circles and what happened was between adults and already dealt with. Whether you had 19 witnesses and audio recordings or not, this is already known gossip in the golf circles written by a person you hired to do so who is also known as "Golf's Gossip Girl." Congratulations on a job well done! Now you have converted your golf media company into a tabloid and it will be forever be known as such. Be careful with Karma, I heard she's around.

The article mentions bad decisions, cheating that his wife apparently already knew about, inappropriate sexual advances, to a situation described by the article as “nonconsensual inappropriate physical contact" all bad for anyone accused of them and reflects a very bad character flaw. But where does it mentions sexual assault? Where was that sexual assault? Who is accusing him of sexual assault? Was he charged with sexual assault?

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour still maintains a sex and opioid addicted individual who recently cut short his 90 day opioid addiction rehab stint as their PGA Tour Enterprises Co-Chairman, PGA Tour board Lead Player Director, and Chairman of its Future Competition Committee. But let's use our marketing partner resources to distract golf fans from that and point them towards the other great player in the last 30 years who apparently has also been lose with his sex advances and has shown gambling addiction habits in the past. Both individuals are wrong, one more than the other because one puts the lives of the public at risk but both have shown they have HUGE character flaws. The only difference (apart from putting the public at risk) is that one gets protected by the almighty PGA Tour and given however many chances to come back and even steer the PGAT ship without any shame at all. While the other is no longer protected by the tour and in fact is considered PGAT enemy #1. Now his worst kept secrets which everyone knew about before this hit piece was written and most of them occurred while he was a PGA Tour member and wasn't disciplined for them (conduct unbecoming a professional) are now rehashed and conveniently exposed by a PGAT media partner in which the Tour has a board seat. All to cause him harm and used to distract from the other individual sex addiction, multiple transgressions, and an opioid addict who continues to put the lives of the public at risk.

I’ve been to a lot of these clubs. What Phil/Tiger did/didn’t do is no different than most of these members - the members are just not public figures. See the old CCO of the @PGATOUR. These clubs should be mortified that Skratch is putting it out there. This is an institutional issue, not a member issue. There are always people that know (or think they know) your business and will hold that over your head so you do what they say. That’s how the whole thing operates. You’re welcome.

Never worked harder on an article in my life, including rigorous vetting by two top media attorneys and an ace fact-checker. Here’s the real story about the real Phil:

All these stories have been known in pro golf circles for a very long time now. What's new is the PGA Tour using their media partner to tell the stories about a player that's no longer a member of the PGAT and the timing of it which coincides with the individual with the bigger control on all the PGAT boards cutting short his 90 day Opioid addiction rehab. The stories may be true and well known, but the article is a paid hit piece by a PGAT media partner in which the PGA Tour holds a board seat. This article has nothing to do with sports journalism.

I have always said that litigation and a players association is the way to go for them to protect their independent contractor rights but they are scared of the PGAT repercussions. If they go that route that would also surprise me. Now the majority of them (PGAT membership) will be playing in just 20 $4M purse events come 2028 because they don't have an association to protect them, they haven't sued, and have left decisions to be made by the rich (top) players who in turn will get a ton of exemptions to stay in Tier 1 for years.

The only way short of contracting them is to make their rules so they be forced too. Mandatory 15 events minimum without counting the majors, etc. But they won't do that because they run the risk of losing those players and of any of them taking them to court for violating their independent contractor rights. The PGAT is in a conundrum.

@JeffWestkowski Yes, it has been happening for years! Bubba said it publicly. The only difference now is that the price for those “corporate appearances” has grown significantly.

This is what happens to the so called “meritocracy” they were just talking about a few days ago when it gets confronted with reality. The result of that is the PGAT having to make up a new rule. Expect many more like this come 2028 when the new Tier system is implemented. Sponsors already asking themselves if they will also need to pay Rory “a corporate function appearance fee” so he shows up to their sponsored PGAT events.

@djbigblack85 Some people probably won’t have a number, Tiger, Rory, etc. But they will show up to events where they have a “sponsorship committment” with the event sponsor. Be it a corporate outing or dinner that week.

@TOURMISS @DPWorldTour @flushingitgolf If all the people there are PGAT media marketing partners I don’t think they will ask those questions. And those that aren’t marketing partners are afraid to lose their access. Sad but true, they have thrown their journalism ethics out the door.
