AJ is known for creating things like the Mr. P Makeship plush campaign and other community campaigns, but my main concern is what he wants to do with Piggy. The biggest issue is that he focuses on player retention. For example, he added a 10-minute timer before players can open gifts, and he wanted campaign coins so players would have to grind instead of receiving rewards for free. The main reason I don’t think AJ should oversee Piggy is because of how he treats community skins. He has said that community skins bloat the game, even though Book 1 already has 87 skins. Yet his own updates continue to add more skins, which I think is a contradiction. He later said he only wants to add community skins if they fit the theme of an update. I think this goes against the original purpose of community skins. Minitoon chooses skins because he likes them, which is why Bobby was added. Some people may not have liked it, but it was unique and probably never would have been added under a theme-only system. Here’s why I think this idea fails: 1. It hurts creativity. The whole point of community skins is that anyone’s skin has a chance of being selected. Restricting them to update themes limits creativity and discourages people who already created skins before a theme was announced. 2. It makes the community more toxic. Instead of creating skins for fun and hoping Minitoon might choose one, people would feel pressured to make skins only for specific themes. It becomes a competition rather than a fun community activity. 3. It goes against why Minitoon created community skins. The system was made so anyone could have a chance to be featured. If skins must fit a theme, not everyone gets an equal opportunity, especially those who don’t have time to quickly make a new skin for every update. Team i2r also hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to consistent updates. AJ focuses on player retention, but I don’t think removing or limiting community skins solves any real problem. At most, I think AJ should focus on creating new content instead of changing systems that aren’t broken. Book 1 already has 87 skins. If that’s considered bloated, then continuing to add more skins while criticizing community skins feels like a double standard. AJ is clearly a fan of Piggy, and I believe he understands the game as a player. However, being a fan is different from leading development. Being a lead developer is a big responsibility that requires understanding the entire community. Minitoon has always listened to the community and regularly shared teasers. AJ seems more likely to rely on polls for updates. I don’t think decisions like changing how community skins work should have been his to make because it goes against the original purpose of the feature. The same goes for wanting fewer daily quest skins. Minitoon wanted new players to have more rewards, while AJ appears to want fewer. AJ has talked about reworking systems that I don’t think need to be changed. He often explains these changes by saying they help support the team or improve player retention, but I think players would rather see more content, bug fixes, and community features. AJ is only 19 and is still a young developer. Minitoon has spent years building Piggy and understanding its community. I think AJ should continue helping with updates, but I don’t think he should be making all of the major design decisions yet. A good example is the lack of teasers. Yes, updates take time, but is it really that difficult to share a few more teasers? There were only two teasers in May. MKQ was also delayed for about a year. It was originally going to be a bigger event, but it eventually became a quest. That makes me wonder what the point of delaying it was if it ended up going back to something much smaller. I believe Team i2r can make good updates. However, I don’t think I can trust AJ as the long term lead developer for Piggy.
