This Sunday, I find myself reflecting on one simple truth, leadership is ultimately measured not by the office one seeks, but by the lives one is privileged to serve. Over the past several months, I have travelled across our country, meeting colleagues from every region, every generation, and every sphere of practice. I have listened more than I have spoken. I have learned from your experiences, shared in your aspirations, and gained an even deeper appreciation of the resilience and excellence that define our profession. These conversations have strengthened my conviction that the Nigerian Bar Association deserves leadership that is accessible, accountable, and committed to the success of every lawyer. For me, this journey has never been about an election. It has always been about our shared responsibility to leave the Bar stronger than we found it, to build an Association that inspires confidence, protects our professional dignity, and creates opportunities for every member to thrive. As we worship and reflect today, may we be guided by wisdom, strengthened by faith, and inspired to always choose service over self interest, principle over convenience, and unity over division. I remain grateful for your trust, your encouragement, and the countless conversations that continue to shape my vision for our great Association. Today, I look forward to joining colleagues in Abeokuta at a special reception hosted by the NBA Women Forum, Ogun State Chapter, The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), FIDA Ogun State, and other distinguished women-led legal organisations. I consider this engagement a great honour and another opportunity to listen, exchange ideas, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one profession. The collaboration of these respected organisations sends a powerful message, that the future of our Bar is best built through dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Arewa Young Lawyers Forum Summit in Kano, where I engaged with some of the brightest and most passionate young members of our profession. The future of the Nigerian Bar will be shaped by the quality of leadership we provide today and the opportunities we create for the next generation of lawyers. It was inspiring to listen to the perspectives, aspirations, and concerns of young practitioners who remain committed to the ideals of our profession despite the challenges they face. I commend the leadership of the Arewa Young Lawyers Forum for creating a platform that encourages meaningful dialogue, mentorship, and professional development. Initiatives like this strengthen our Bar and remind us that investing in young lawyers is investing in the future of justice in Nigeria. I remain convinced that the Bar must work for every lawyer, regardless of age, geography, or years in practice. We must continue to build an Association that listens, supports, and creates opportunities for all. A PERSONAL NOTE TO MY COLLEAGUES: My Dear Learned Colleagues, I write to you today not just as a candidate, but as a devoted member of this great Association, an institution that has defined my life, shaped my career, and holds my deepest professional loyalties. Following careful consideration of recent developments surrounding the rescheduled NBA election and the proposed presidential debate, I have taken the difficult decision not to participate in the scheduled debate. This was not a choice made lightly, and I share this with you because I believe you deserve to know where I stand. I have always believed that the processes governing our elections must mirror the integrity of our profession: fairness, transparency, and, above all, the spirit of genuine consultation. These are the values I have fought for throughout my career. Recent developments, including the manner in which key decisions regarding the electoral process and debate guidelines were introduced by the ECNBA, have raised concerns that strike at the very heart of these principles. I have communicated these concerns directly to the ECNBA, emphasizing that meaningful engagement with all stakeholders is not a luxury, it is a necessity for a process of this magnitude. Please understand, my decision not to participate in this specific event is a principled stance, not a withdrawal from engagement. I am, and remain, fully committed to this race and to each of you. I have always sought the face to face connection that makes our Bar a family. In this campaign alone, I have journeyed across the country, been present at branch law weeks, agms, town halls, and interactive sessions. I have stood before the Townhall by NBA Lagos Branch and participated in the debate hosted by Timi Agbaje precisely because I believe in the power of direct dialogue. I am always here waiting to speak with you, heart to heart, as I have done throughout this journey. This election is about the soul of our profession and the future we are building together. As a Life Bencher, it was a privilege to receive these new colleagues into the Nigerian Bar and to remind them that the wig and gown they now wear represent far more than professional status, they are enduring symbols of honour, responsibility and fidelity to the Rule of Law.
