#JGSDF hosted an external lecture on international humanitarian law by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for personnel at Camp Miyakojima on 30 JUN 2026. In addition, a meeting was held between the ICRC and JGSDF officers, including the CG of the Western Army at Camp Kengun on 1 JUL 2026. During the meeting, the both sides shared their understanding of the importance of international humanitarian law and exchanged views on future engagement. JGSDF will continue to strengthen its cooperation with relevant organizations and contribute to the peace and stability of Japan and the international community.

🇯🇵🇺🇸#JGSDF completed the field training exercise “Resolute Dragon 26” in Japan with the U.S. Marine Corps on 30 JUN 2026. Through the exercise, the JGSDF and the USMC strengthened bilateral interoperability for island defense. JGSDF will continue to strengthen Japan-US bilateral deterrence and response capabilities and contribute to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan. 🇯🇵🇺🇸#JGSDF conducted a disaster response drill in the Sakishima Islands as part of a field training exercise with the U.S. Marine Corps, “Resolute Dragon 26.” During the drill, the JGSDF established a joint coordination center within a camp and conducted the transportation of supplies and casualty evacuation using aircraft (V-22 and CH-53), as well as joint medical support operations and joint water purification training under a disaster response scenario. Through these activities, the JGSDF enhanced its disaster response capabilities and shared a common understanding of coordination procedures.

🇯🇵🇲🇳LTG Tokunaga, VCS, JGSDF, observed an ongoing multinational exercise, “Khaan Quest 26,” in Mongolia on 28 JUN 2026. During the visit, he encouraged #JGSDF personnel participating in both the Field Training Exercise and Command Post Exercise. He also made an office call on the Chief of Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, where both sides shared a views on further strengthening Japan - Mongolia defense cooperation, including continued participation in this exercise and the advancement of capacity-building support in the field of peacekeeping operations.

Observers from Australia, United Kingdom, France, Philippines participated in the observer program at Camp Kengun, the HijudaiTraining Area, and other locations. This program enabled participants to deepen their understanding of the high readiness and strong will of Japan and the United States for the defense of Japan. Furthermore, we shared our recognition of the importance of cooperation among partner nations.

#JGSDF completed the development of range facilities on #Minamitorishima for conducting a live fire training of the Type 12 Surface-to-Ship Missile (12SSM) in June 2026 as part of expanding domestic training infrastructure. In addition, in order to verify the functionality of the constructed launch sites and related facilities, several equipment such as type 12SSM, Network Electronic Warfare System (NEWS), and unmanned aerial system Scan Eagle II (SE II) were also deployed to Minamitorishima. Throughout this period, the JGSDF confirmed that firing operations can be conducted safely and reliably. In light of the increasingly severe security environment, the JGSDF will continue to maintain and enhance the proficiency of its SSM units and other relevant forces both domestically and internationally, in order to ensure the defense of Japan.

COL Sakaizawa and two other members who will be sent to the Republic of Djibouti as the 26th DGPE personnel reported to GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF on their departure Japan on 25 JUN 2026. To improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the DAPE, the DGPE carries out security, maintenance, and management of the operation facility in the Republic of Djibouti. #JGSDF will continue to contribute to securing extremely important stable sea lanes for Japan and the international community through dispatching personnel to the DGPE.

Four JGSDF members led by LTC Akatsuka, deployed as staff officers to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, rendered a report to GEN Arai, CS, JGSDF, on 24 JUN 2026 upon completion of their duties and return to Japan. GEN Arai commended them for accomplishing their duties under volatile security situation in the Middle East, demonstrating the experience and capabilities they had cultivated as JGSDF personnel, and earning high praise from other contributing countries, including the United States. #JGSDF will continue to contribute to improving the international security environment through dispatching qualified personnel to international peace cooperation.

This initiative is an unexploded ordnance (UXO) disposal program in Pacific Island countries, involving AUS, CAN, FRA, NZL, PNG, UK, and the U.S. Through providing UXO disposal training to military personnel from allied and like-minded countries in the region, conducting medical support activities at an aid station in coordination with AUS, and delivering UXO awareness education to the people of PNG, the JGSDF strengthened its relationship with PNG and, in cooperation with allied and like-minded countries, contributed to peace and stability in the Pacific Islands region.

#JGSDF, as a representative of MG Musha, CG, Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade participated in #PALS2026, at Hawaii from 15 to 18 JUN 2026. At this symposium, he participated as a panelist in a panel discussion and, through engagements with amphibious force commanders from various countries in Indo-Pacific region and others, strengthened cooperation and exchanged views on the future cooperation. Hughes, Commander of the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity Japan and Command Surgeon of U.S. Army Japan, on 19 JUN 2026. Since his assignment in July 2024, COL Hughes has made significant contributions over nearly two years to strengthening the relationship between the JGSDF and the U.S. Army. #JGSDF will continue to further enhance its partnership with the U.S. Army to maintain peace and stability in the international community.

🇯🇵🇲🇳#JGSDF conducted a Capacity Building Project on PKO (Civil Engineering) for the Mongolian Armed Forces at the JGSDF Engineer School (Camp Katsuta) from 18 MAY to 19 JUN 2026. During this program, instructors from the Engineer School and other units provided Mongolian personnel with education on construction techniques necessary for establishing PKO camps. This included instruction on layout, design, construction plans, and methodology for installing water supply and drainage systems. In addition, the Engineer School hosted cultural exchange activities to deepen mutual understanding and goodwill. Through this program, the JGSDF will continue to contribute to the further development of friendly relations between Japan and Mongolia.
