In my view in has to do with resonance, cohesion, and balanced change. The character writing has to resonate with the deeper more complex elements of humanity. It should focus on core commonalities rather than on differences. Differences are just variations on commonalities. They must seem real and ring true. To often modern writing creates shallow characters who speak and behave in ways that are shallow and inhuman. The world itself (including the characters) must be cohesive. Once you create something it has to be consistent. If you break it, there has to be a reason that makes sense or you also break the illusion. It's also important that the world and characters you create experience fluctuations in their inner and outer world. The fluctuations need to work in harmony and create change. Too much excitement can get boring, it needs to be offset by periods of peace. These need to cause some kind of tangible change in the characters or world. I think if these three criteria are fulfilled you get immersion, people become invested in characters and a world as though they're real.

This is amazing. Pretty cool the creative ways people find around impairments. Years ago I picked up The Brain's Way of Healing by Norman Doidge. It covered a man who'd undergone a number of eye surgeries due to a serious eye condition. He ended up recovering from being legally blind (managing to return his vision to 20/20 in one eye and still improving in the other at the time the book was written) by rewiring his brain to accurately perceive the distorted input.

This is probably the best podcast I've listened to on peptides.
