Reminder of what this NHS PATHWAYS trial actually involves: 12-year-olds with so-called "gender" incongruence are asked via the ALSPAC Romantic Relations measure about oral sex in the past year and paid to complete the questionnaires. This is highly inappropriate for a research study on puberty blockers in minors. Ethical lines crossed. Compensating minors for these questionnaires adds a coercive layer, even if 'standard'. ALSPAC is a validated tool used in general population studies, but ethics approval doesn’t automatically make it wise or right!! Committees can and have been influenced by these dangerous prevailing ideologies.

This has been overlooked. 12-year-olds enrolled in the trial will be asked to complete questionnaires about whether they have engaged in oral sex during the previous year... They will also be paid for filling out the questionnaires.

The UK government has published its draft Bill to ban “conversion practices”. It is stupid and malevolent in equal measure. It stems from complete ignorance of the process of child development, contempt for parents, carers and therapists - and for child safeguarding - and from an activist mindset that is single-mindedly driving its social engineering project. It has nothing - nothing whatsoever - to do with the disgusting practices of gay conversion therapy that were outlawed decades ago. Parents, teachers, carers, therapists, all have a duty of care towards the children entrusted to them. They will often be telling those children things they do not want to hear. That is an important part of adult responsibility. It’s certainly central to parenting. For who is to judge what causes “serious alarm or distress”? Clearly a child can report these feelings. The deepest irony of all: the words “serious harm to the individual’s physical or mental health.” Are you serious?? There are few things more damaging to a child’s physical and mental health than giving drugs that block puberty - that prevent him or her maturing into an adult. All who care about child safeguarding will oppose this pernicious activist Bill with all their strength and determination.

I completely get how infuriating these robotic template responses are. That's if you get a response at all! TRY: Replying to your MP with a personalised follow-up (mention your family's situation briefly and ask direct questions: "Will you vote for/against the Bill and why?"). Book a constituency surgery slot; in-person gets far more attention than email. Or maybe go public with their name? I think a lot of us are sick of MPs treating serious constituent concerns like spam!!!

It uses dangerously broad definitions that could criminalise parents guiding their children, therapists offering exploratory care, and open discussion of biological sex and desistance. If you’re a parent who tries to dissuade your child from taking puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or undergoing breast/genital surgery; this Government may send you to prison for up to 5 years. It explicitly legislates around “transgender identity” (including non-binary) and risks chilling legitimate safeguarding amid the findings of the Cass Review, which highlighted weak evidence for medical pathways, high rates of co-occurring issues, and the need for holistic psychological support rather than affirmation as default. Current criminal and child protection laws already cover real abuse, coercion, and harm. This bill risks going far beyond that by potentially equating evidence-based caution or exploratory therapy with prohibited “conversion practices.”

📣🚨CONVERSION THERAPY BAN PETITION The Government has announced it intends to press ahead with a ban on conversion therapy. Like most 'bans', this sounds benign. How could anyone not want to ban giving electric shocks to gay kids? But the fact is, that's already against the law, as are all the other coercive practices conjured up by the phrase 'conversion therapy'. So what is it the Government wants to ban, exactly? The answer is 'converting' children who think they're trans to being 'cisgendered'. That's where the impetus for this ban has come from — well-funded pro-trans lobby groups like Stonewall and Mermaids. So any parent who 'misgenders' their confused adolescent daughter, or tries to talk them out of embarking on an irreversible medical pathway, could face criminal charges for trying to 'convert' them. And we're not talking about out a slap on the wrist. In the state of Victoria, Australia, which brought in a conversion therapy ban in 2021, the maximum penalty for trying to 'convert' someone is 10 years in prison. It won't just be parents and medical professionals who will risk imprisonment for trying to talk gender-confused children out of mutilating themselves. Any religious leader who shares the teachings of their faith on issues like homosexuality and gay marriage, could also face prosecution. That's what this authoritarian Government wants to ban — any dissent from radical progressive orthodoxy when it comes to sex and gender. There is no demonstrated gap requiring this new, specific legislation. The draft bill defines “conversion practice” extremely broadly as any conduct intended to cause a person to believe they do not have a “transgender identity” (explicitly including non-binary). Abusive conversion practices causing serious harm, alarm, or distress would carry up to 5 years’ imprisonment. This is particularly concerning for parents. A parent who tries to dissuade their distressed child from puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or surgeries (such as mastectomy or genital procedures) could face investigation or prosecution. There is no clear, robust parental exemption. The healthcare exemption is weak; applying only where care falls “far below” expected standards. This conflicts directly with the independent Cass Review’s conclusions: weak evidence for medical transition in minors, very high rates of co-occurring mental health conditions, autism, trauma and social influence, and the need for careful, holistic psychological exploration rather than affirmation as default. Many children with gender-related distress desist naturally when given time and proper support. Legislating in this area would: ▪️Enshrine highly contested concepts of “transgender identity” into criminal law. ▪️Chill legitimate parental guidance and exploratory therapy. ▪️Prioritise ideology over biological reality and child safeguarding. ▪️Risk harming the very children it claims to protect by discouraging evidence-based caution.
