Therefore giving an approximately balanced budget whether near or far over the fullness of time.
Hopefully this balance of transport costs and daily expenses remains consistent whether one or the other is more expensive for a given location.
It's also worth pointing out that another pattern is likely to emerge: remote destinations are likely to be more expensive to get to and yet more cheap for food, drink and entertainment, whilst the inverse goes for closer locations (relative to Europe and North America).
@IanJPurnell Concur there. It is however an interesting dichotomy and will be worth reporting on for future events.
On the other hand, International veterans have picked up on an emerging dichotomy. Northern hemisphere events will be big in numbers but perhaps missing the intimacy of the keen-beans who make up the southern hemisphere events. Will this cycle repeat every 3 years?
Only time will tell. But we know wherever the International is held, it will always be a one in a kind Jitsu event and the very last one you should dream of missing out on.
Thank you for being part of something truly special and memorable. We only hope that we can boost numbers for the next event.
And in the main, everyone seems to be safe and sound. We heard an isolated report of pickpocketing, but there were no outbreaks of violence or other serious or petty crime, to the best of our awareness.
It was an odyssey of a holiday, taking parties from Cape Town to Durban to Johannesburg to Pilanesberg to Kruger and Drakensberg! We're so glad you all made the most of it and had a hell of an experience.
About now, every group should be back from South Africa including stragglers who went to Cape Town. Maybe the Argentinian contingent are still touring and doing bungee jumping though.

Well we did have a grading and it was a perfectly successful one! Here are the nidan, Andreas Lerch and Richard "Charlie" Robinson being presented with their certificates.

What did you do on your rest day? Scotland and Northern England did some spas and went to a reptile house, then met up with others including Wales and Canada for a fun horseriding route.
Remember that tomorrow's global mat day will take place at 9:30, an hour earlier than originally planned to allow more time for relaxing. But this also helps the grading candidates wrap up sooner.
