A quick feel good story - My breastfeeding daughter and my son flew to Cape Town for my Mums funeral. My daughter couldn’t take her baby with for reasons I won’t post publicly, but she had to express to keep her milk supply. She contacted the neonatal Unit at the same hospital where Mum passed and asked if she could donate her milk. A few blood tests and checks later and she arrived with several pouches of milk. The hospital were extremely grateful, particularly as there was no financial exchange. She met the baby (and her parents) that her milk was to sustain in the unit as she delivered the milk. The premature baby was born at approximately the same time on the same day in the same hospital my mom passed away. Our family lost a life and my daughter was able to sustain another at the same time. Never have I been so proud to see that the values that my mother passed down, have passed on to my daughters. From our pain, has come joy. I’m a very proud mum.

Disconcerting to say the least… women NEED more midwives, more than ever right now

@makesmilk I was trained on swimming pool hygiene and chlorine dosing, all the grim stuff floating along the surface level before being pulled through the filters. If people knew the half of it they’d be wishing they were gulping breastmilk and not what they’re actually swallowing 💁🏼‍♀️

I finally got around to watching @BirthTimeWorld this week. As a mother, and student midwife it evoked a lot of emotions. As ever I’m in awe with birth, the strength of women and the power they so courageously carry. But I’m frustrated, globally we need to do better for our women
