റിസർവേഷന് പണ്ട് പുച്ഛം ഒക്കെ ആയിരുന്നു, അവർക്ക് വലിയ ചെലവില്ലാതെ വലിയ കഷ്ടപ്പാട് ഇല്ലാതെ കോളേജിലെ സീറ്റ് കിട്ടുന്നു എന്നുള്ള അഭിപ്രായം എനിക്കും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഡിഗ്രിക്കും പിജിക്കും കുറെനാൾ തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെയും കുറച്ച് നോർത്തിലെ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെയും അവസ്ഥ നേരിട്ട് കാണാൻ ഇടയായി. അപ്പോൾ മനസ്സിലായി നമ്മൾ കേൾക്കുന്നതും കാണുന്നതും ആയിട്ടുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ ഒത്തിരി അന്തരങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട് എന്നുള്ളത് ( ഡിഗ്രിക്ക്‌ കൂടെ പഠിച്ച ഒരു പയ്യന്റെ ഫ്രണ്ടിന്റെ കൈ വെട്ടിയത് ഉയർന്ന ജാതിയിലുള്ള ഒരു പെണ്ണിനെ ഷേക്ക്‌ ഹാൻഡ് കൊടുത്തു എന്ന കുറ്റത്തിനായിരുന്നു) അങ്ങനെയുള്ള പല കഥകളും അവസ്ഥകളും നേരിട്ട് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ മനസ്സിലായി റിസർവേഷൻ കാറ്റഗറിയിലുള്ള ഭൂരിപക്ഷം ആൾക്കാരും വളരെ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് ആണ് ജീവിക്കുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള കുറച്ചു പേരുടെ ഐശ്വര്യം സമൃദ്ധിയും കണ്ട് എല്ലാവരും അങ്ങനെ ചിന്തിക്കുന്നത് മണ്ടത്തരമാണ്. പറയുമ്പോൾ എല്ലാം പറയണം : നോർത്ത് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ താഴ്ന്ന ജാതിക്കാരുടെ ഇടയിലും അങ്ങോട്ടുമിങ്ങോട്ടും വേർ തിരിവ്ണ്ട്. അമ്മാതിരി ജാതീയതയാണ് പലയിടത്തും.
