Lung and heart issues loom among firefighters and residents affected by the Boyle Heights fire. A seven-day fire originating from a single standing commercial building continues in one of LA's most underserved, Latino working-class neighborhoods. Mayor Bass was again out of touch and out of town for the first 2 days of the fire, and her hand-picked Fire Chief declared victory on the second day. Councilwoman Ysabel J. Councilwoman Ysabel J. Jurado, a DSA member, and outgoing LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis have remained silent, refusing to use their own discretionary or city funds to provide nearby residents and businesses with air purifiers or face masks.
