Update: We spent the weekend carefully reviewing the U.S. government documents provided to us. We found that #Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu (@OfficialABAT) is lying to the world. For example, this weekend, President #Tinubu and his associates claimed that the heroin-trafficking records have not been released solely because @TheJusticeDept (DOJ) and the @FBI object to their release to protect methods and save lives. But we found that President #Tinubu’s own October 23, 2023, motion to the court shows that he personally entered the federal case to prevent records concerning him from being disclosed and that he is communicating with the federal defendants: DOJ, FBI, DEA, and CIA. In his October 23, 2023, motion, President #Tinubu argued that the records contained private financial and “law-enforcement information” and invoked FOIA and privacy protections (see pages 3–4). Tinubu went even further, arguing that the federal agencies (#DOJ, #FBI, @DEAHQ, and @CIA) themselves were not adequately representing (protecting) his personal privacy interests in court, which is why he wanted to participate directly in the lawsuit (see pages 5–6). But here is the smoking gun: Tinubu specifically requested 30 days before the documents were released to consult with the federal agencies (DOJ, FBI, DEA, and CIA) about what they intended to produce and release publicly (see page 7). The court granted #Tinubu’s request to intervene on November 27, 2023. It was at this point that we believe the Biden DOJ went from stonewalling to absolutely blocking the release of the Tinubu heroin-trafficking files. So, in very plain English: Fact 1: President #Tinubu filed a motion in U.S. federal court and asked to be allowed into the case so that he could fight the disclosure of IRS and federal law-enforcement records concerning him. Fact 2: He specifically asked for time to “consult” with the federal defendants (#DOJ, #FBI, #DEA, and #CIA) about the records they intended to release and to assert additional protections and exemptions (see page 7). Yesterday, I had the honour of celebrating the graduation of 850 young innovators from TechRise Cohort 3. These brilliant minds have completed intensive ICT training and are now equipped to shape Abia’s digital future. To encourage their excellent performance, I have: * Approved automatic employment into the State Civil Service for the 19 best-graduating students. * Directed that all 850 graduands receive ₦100,000 each. * Gifted them the laptops used during training, now theirs to keep. Beyond these, I have instructed our ministries to integrate TechRise talents into government ICT projects, ensuring their skills directly improve public service delivery. A special salary structure for ICT professionals in the civil service will also be introduced. I urge our graduands to remain committed to continuous learning. The greatest reward of the programme is the knowledge and skills they now possess. Use them to build businesses, create innovations, and uplift society—not for harmful purposes. I am particularly proud of the team that developed a functional drone. We will support them in moving this innovation from concept to commercial reality. Finally, we are working to establish international-standard ICT certification centres in Abia and expand internet access across the state in partnership with MTN. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our graduands, once again. You are the true architects of our collective future.

Tomorrow Borno State schoolchildren will spend 100 solid days in the hands of terrorists, and among them is a toddler just 1 year and 7 months old. A baby who should be in the arms of their parents has spent 100 days in captivity while Nigeria carries on like this is normal.

In 2027 Nigeria presidential election, I am for David against Goliath. I just hope the opposition (especially, @PeterObi) will make the election a real David v Goliath fight. Imo: Nigerian authorities must account for hundreds of unidentified bodies - Amnesty International, 22nd August 2026 Amnesty International is deeply concerned by reports alleging that hundreds of unidentified bodies are being moved from mortuaries in Imo State, including Ngor Okpala General Hospital, to unknown destinations. Bodies have also reportedly been seen at Mbieri General Hospital. The authorities must urgently clarify the circumstances surrounding the bodies and their movement. Horrifying videos obtained by Amnesty International shows stages of moving the dead bodies at night. Majority of the bodies are at skeletal level and in large numbers. “Imo State Government and relevant authorities must to immediately account for all the bodies, establish their identities and causes of death, and explain when, where and how they came to be in the mortuaries and where they are now being taken. All bodies, mortuary records, medical records and other relevant evidence must be preserved to prevent interference with any investigation,” said Isa Sanusi Director Amnesty International Nigeria. “Allegations that some of the deceased may have been victims of unlawful killings during security operations in Imo State must be promptly, independently and impartially investigated,” said Isa Sanusi The authorities must ensure that the bodies are properly identified and subjected to appropriate forensic examinations, including autopsies where necessary, and that families are promptly informed and given information about their relatives. No body or evidence should be concealed, destroyed, disposed of or otherwise interfered with. Anyone suspected of criminal responsibility for unlawful killings or other human rights violations must be investigated and, where there is sufficient admissible evidence, prosecuted in fair proceedings. “The families of those who died or disappeared have a right to know what happened to their loved ones. The authorities must act urgently to establish the truth, preserve evidence and ensure justice and accountability.”

24 yrs ago this week, @NigBarAssoc gathered in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the beginning of its 42nd Annual Conference. The participants included the Chairman of Onitsha Branch, Barnabas Igwe & his wife, Amaka, who was also a lawyer. She was pregnant. At the end of the conference, they departed back to Onitsha, arriving on 1 September. The following day, Barnabas & Amaka went to work together in their law office. It was their last. On their way back from work on that fateful 2 Sept in 2002, a criminal gang attacked & murdered both of them. Ken Emeakayi, a member of the cabinet in the @anambrastate_ then, was subsequently arrested & charged with the killings. A prison break ostensibly freed him & ransacked the trial, before it cld be concluded. In March 2024, the Truth, Justice & Peace Commission of Anambra State re-examined the matter & reported to @CCSoludo as the Governor of Anambra State. It recommended a re-opening of the prosecution with a view to bringing Mr. Emeakayi to lawful account. Instead, the governor rewarded Mr. Emeakayi with appointment as the man in charge of security in Anambra State. THE FBI MUST ACCEPT THAT THE ERA OF SECRECY IS ENDING By Kio Amachree Letters from Stockholm The FBI must come to its senses and recognise that its continuing legal manoeuvres over the Bola Tinubu records are damaging confidence in both American justice and US–Nigeria relations. Nigeria’s 230 million citizens cannot be treated as though they have no right to ask questions about the background of their own president. These records concern events dating back more than three decades. The public is entitled to know what happened, what role Tinubu played, and why American agencies remain so determined to conceal significant portions of their files. On August 20, 2026, the FBI asked the US District Court for permission to submit declarations ex parte and in camera in support of its renewed motion for summary judgment. In plain language, the FBI wants to explain its reasons for withholding information privately to Judge Beryl Howell, without Aaron Greenspan or the public seeing its full argument. The FBI relies partly on FOIA Exemptions 7(E) and 7(F), claiming disclosure could reveal investigative techniques or endanger someone’s life or physical safety. Greenspan opposed this request after the parties conferred on August 19, making it a contested motion that Judge Howell must now decide. After more than thirty years, the assertion that meaningful disclosure would create an unacceptable danger requires the most rigorous judicial scrutiny. It cannot become an indefinite licence for secrecy. Many Nigerians now suspect that Tinubu may have been a valuable American intelligence or law-enforcement source. That remains an allegation and has not been established by the public record. But the FBI’s extraordinary resistance inevitably fuels that suspicion. Government agencies cannot behave as though these records contain matters of exceptional sensitivity and then expect the public to believe they contain nothing important. If Tinubu cooperated with American authorities, Nigerians deserve to know the nature and extent of that cooperation. What information was provided? What arrangements, if any, were made? Did those arrangements influence decisions not to prosecute? Could any undisclosed relationship affect Nigeria’s sovereignty or its dealings with the United States? These are legitimate questions—not conspiracy theories to be dismissed with another sealed declaration. For accuracy, August 21 is a deadline in the summary-judgment briefing process, not an automatic date for the complete files to be released. Further briefing deadlines reportedly extend into September. The immediate dispute is whether the FBI may present part of its justification secretly before the court determines whether its withholding is lawful. That distinction does not diminish the importance of this moment. It demonstrates that the fight for disclosure is continuing and that the FBI is still resisting full public scrutiny. The United States must decide whether it stands for transparency and respect for the Nigerian people or for permanent secrecy surrounding one politically powerful individual. The present position is unsustainable. The longer the agencies resist, the stronger the public suspicion becomes. The Nigerian people are informed, alert and determined to discover the truth. They will not be patronised, silenced or treated as subjects whose questions do not matter. The era of secrecy must end.
