Parliamentary governments seem especially susceptible to incremental progress and constant backsliding because of the inherent instability of the system. There's a slew of domestic non-security related issues that need fixing in this country that get sidelined because of the immediately pressing demands of our physical reality. It's increasingly difficult to solve these even in times of peace because of the political necessity of appeasing minority members of coalitions who nonetheless can hold a government hostage. In addition to the problems at hand, the system itself deserves re-examining in the near future.

@thisguyknowsai Literally none of these things are the primary focus of doing a PhD. All of these examples are gimmicky literature review prompts, which comprise maybe 5% of a PhD's time. The vast majority of their effort is spent in the lab doing actual science.
