The nice thing about dealing with an 8-year-old that can't sleep unless I sit in her room until she's sound asleep is that it's given me A LOT of time to concentrate on my writing. Nothing like fleshing out stories with a head lamp from the floor of your kid's room :)
Sending a picture of a rainbow to cheer everyone up out there! "Ca va bien aller" means "It will all go well" - positive messages we are putting up in our neighbourhoods around Canada to support each other and brighten the days.
My family and I survived the first week with schools being closed. Not easy to parent, teach and work all at the same time, but we're handling it :) Even managed to start on a new novel project in the midst of all this!
Sending positive thoughts and prayers to my mom and sister and all other hospital/ICU staff as we face this crisis. I hope everyone can stay healthy! Thank you all for doing your jobs and putting yourselves at risk!

New year, new goals... I've been neglecting my diary for a while, so I've decided to put aside all other projects and have some 'catch up' time with my old friend.
Sometimes blessings come in unexpected ways... My current principal thought I was SO bad at being a grade 6 teacher (this after 10 years teaching experience - 2 of which were in grade 6) that she decided to 'hide' me in the library. Meanwhile, Teacher-Librarian is my dream job!
@amynewmark We lost my father-in-law to dementia last March. It was heartbreaking to watch him slowly deteriorate over the last 7 years. One time, he was playing house with my daughter (who was 3-4 at the time) and he tried to eat the plastic brocoli thinking it was real food...
If you have a family member with dementia, as I do, I think you’ll appreciate this speech about how this woman helped her elderly mother during her last days with dementia. I’m on my way to visit my 91yo father right now to put fake money in his wallet! We’ve reached that point.

As per usual, the Christmas story my kids asked for was in its third draft (rather than its 15th, as desired) when I printed it for them last night. Still, it was very well received. We all had a good time reading it together and bonding as a family over it.
My kids are a great source of inspiration! Together we've brainstormed a story idea for Christmas and I think I now have enough material to flesh out the first draft on the weekend.
For the first time in weeks, I feel like I've caught up to life - my new job, my new home, my new lifestyle - and have time each night for writing... Which is good because my kids want a new story for Christmas. Arrg! Deadlines!

Friends and followers, big news! My family and I are moving from BC to the Yukon, for what I hope is a better career opportunity, both teaching-wise and writing-wise. I think the term for what I'm feeling right now is NERVACITED :)
It's taken me 7 years (procrastination to the max!), but I'm finally a few hours of work from being completely caught up on the journal entries from the first 9 months of my child's life :)
