@manofnoproperty @pyjamas_black Nah, the Chomsky line is basically just an a priori theoretical claim that (for mysterious Marxist reasons) aspects of a state's policy can't be captured by sectional interests. The zog line is based on observation of how American politics actually works.

@SteveNickSmith Seems likely this would have been at the request of the Israeli gvt. The fuss has served its purpose in Britain (repairing the 'anti-semitism' firewall around Israel); the riots that would ensue if the fans actually came wouldn't benefit the pro-Israel cause.

@meulenbeld_rick @TheSnowDreamer @extremetemps By far the biggest problem is the lack of external shutters, which are unheard-of in Britain despite being common even in the cooler parts of Europe. AC would still be unnecessary in most British homes if we could just keep out direct sunlight!

@ejhchess Well, his canonisation by certain Christian subcultures hasn't really helped his reputation! But I often find him masterful as a psychologist, rhetorician, literary critic... Albeit very often very annoying.
