@Odogwu_szn_ @ThatPHCBoy 1Sam 15:3: "Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."

"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist." -- James Baldwin

My feminist take today is that we cannot say that choice feminism is harmful because “choice” does not exist in a vacuum due to social structures that favour patriarchy and patriarchal conditioning, and then use the language of agency or choice to fault women for not choosing differently under the same system. It is morally contradictory. What it functionally does is convert structural coercion into personal failure. That woman was operating inside a patriarchal culture where infertility is assumed to be the woman’s fault because it is socially feminised and men’s reproductive issues are concealed. Women are socialised to protect the marital institution, preserve family honour, absorb blame, endure humiliation and guilt. It is not a neutral environment, especially when religion is in the mix and we know religion is always in the mix (“god hates divorce,” “for better for worse,” “submit to your husband,” etc). Saying, “You should have picked yourself” simplifies the complex adaptive survival strategy that many women face under patriarchy and turns it into a moral defect. It also does the thing of individualising blame instead of analysing the incentives or penalties that shaped her decision, and that continue to reproduce the same patterns in other women. Her mother-in-law blamed her for infertility. Then we are now blaming her for childlessness because she was a “pick me.” Basically both doing the same thing: assigning responsibility primarily to the woman instead of interrogating the system that shaped her options. At the end of the day, the woman always gets the blame because it is much easier to make the fault personal and turn her into a cautionary tale. There is a difference between saying, “Women should be encouraged to prioritise their reproductive autonomy” and “You failed to prioritise yourself so these are the consequences.” The first is preventative and structural, the second is retrospective and moralising. Also, one of them is inclusionary and the other is exclusionary. I was of the view that calling out “pickmeism” or male-centredness works only as a preventative measure/message and not after the fact. But like every other thing that gains popularity on social media, I think we’ve turned it into punitive and disciplinary language that flattens women’s lived realities and buries nuance under. I have started to see it particularly being used to blame victims of abuse and it bothers me. I will always say that being a feminist is a privilege and one goal for all of us should be to see how socialisation under patriarchy continues to shape and fail us (yes, even us feminists) and to fight to destroy the structures that keep things this way. I think the woman who is failed by patriarchal structures is as deserving of compassion and empathy as the woman who breaks free from it.

Consequences of being a male centered pickme. Because if you picked yourself and you wanted a child, that choice would not have been taken from you. You would have chosen yourself just as your husband would have chosen himself if it were you.

@Kpelzz @_LifeOfTk The Milankovitch cycle explains past, naturally occurring climate change (CC). But, in talking about the present warming we experience, I'm referring to what we've observed as a result of human activities: anthropogenic CC. Which is correlated with the increase in emissions by us

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke barcc.org/assets/pdf/Sta…

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke In their study sample, researchers found that a child’s risk of being molested by his or her relative’s heterosexual partner was over 100 times greater than their being molested by someone who identifies as being homosexual, lesbian or bisexual (0.7% of the cases).

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke ???

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke I did not say anything on immigration. And honestly, from what I have observed from your replies, you seem very eager to dole out right-wing talking points, shifting from one claim to another. Talk about indoctrination.

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke Nobody wants to initiate kids. One cannot be initiated into a sexuality, It doesn't work like that. Also, I never claimed that only lgbtq people understand human rights. Please, read and comprehend before responding.

@UgoExplainTaya @teemee_lehin @viggieoke While the creating human part doesn't really hold, I hope you know that creating babies ≠ understanding fundamental human rights, right?

And yet, day in day out people ask me about by educational background. Nigeria doesn’t teach you to think critically. They don’t teach you your own history, they don’t tell you the things you should actually know. Formal education aside, our environment is also incredibly

@B_akurathabard @parisreview 😅😅

Imagine if one number called the “Athletic Quotient” covered being good at running, swimming, hockey, archery, riding, etc. Generalists like decathletes would probably score highest while almost never being among the elite performers in any one sport. Something to think about.

this is a very disingenuous take because feminists have never demeaned kitchen work but only questioned why only women have to do it. if it's as joyful as you put it, then everyone, both men & women, should engage in it so the joy can go round. joy is for everyone.

I want young girls to understand that there is contentment in spending time in the kitchen. Do not develop hatred for the knowledge our mothers have passed down for generations. By Allah, cooking and feeding the family isn’t and has never been demeaning.

@jbanj @ifemuyiwa_karo @KR3Wmatic Okay.

@jbanj @ifemuyiwa_karo @KR3Wmatic I believe it's a metaphor: an arrow points in one direction, time also moves in one direction: forward.

@9_3umar @Jaydon225 The same 'Judeo-Christian' morality also adopted its morals from other surrounding religions and cultures, with certain aspects evolving over time, especially during the enlightenment.

@9_3umar @Jaydon225 I don't think atheists claim that morality is self evident, just that, it doesn't require the existence of a god or gods.
