Today, I participated in the #SarajevoMayorsSummit, which brought together cities from across the region around a shared agenda of peace, dialogue, sustainable development and regional cooperation. The Sarajevo Declaration 2026 signed by the Mayors is a strong commitment to putting these priorities into practice. Cities is where European integration becomes more tangible for citizens - through better services, cleaner transport, modern infrastructure and a stronger economy. The EU 🇪🇺 is already investing to make this happening: €617,700 in technical support for the Sarajevo Functional Urban Area through @NetZeroCitiesEU, with potential for much larger investments through the @EIB’s €2 billion lending envelope under the initiative. Thanks to #Sarajevo Mayor Samir Avdić for organising the Summit. The EU is ready to continue supporting cities across 🇧🇦 and beyond through financing, expertise and partnerships.

Low cost cross-border financial transfers for citizens and businesses are one step closer to becoming a reality for BiH! The FBiH House of Representatives and RS National Assembly have now both adopted the legislation necessary for the @CBBiH to apply to the @EU_Commission to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). A concrete step forward for BiH’s EU integration! 🇪🇺🤝🇧🇦

€140.5 million in EU grants for BiH are approved! The BiH Presidency has ratified the IPA 25-27 package. These funds will support BiH's alignment with the EU, incl. projects for economic development & institutional reform. EU remains the most consistent partner of BiH. 🇪🇺🇧🇦

Thank you to @dejansaj and @NezavisneBL for an engaging conversation on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 🇧🇦 path towards the EU 🇪🇺. We discussed the steps for the next major milestone on the EU accession process - the Intergovernmental Conference to launch accession negotiations. We spoke about political will, and delays in adopting legislation and implementing the Reform Agenda of the Growth Plan. When 15-year-old Afan Huseinspahić from #Zenica wrote to me at the beginning of my mandate, he shared his hopes and ideas for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We first met during Europe Day celebrations in Zenica in 2025, and one year later, Afan stood on the Europe Day stage in #Sarajevo, sharing his vision with all. Recently, Afan visited the @eubih office, bringing his curiosity, thoughtful questions and the same enthusiasm that first caught my attention. Another important milestone under #EU4Culture! Today, we celebrated the start of construction of the Centre for Cultural and Creative Industries Development in Banja Luka! Banja Luka is home to outstanding creative talent. The 🇪🇺 is proud to provide support to help it thrive. The new Centre will connect local artists and creative professionals with new opportunities and support the growth of the city's cultural and creative industries. EU investment in the new Centre is worth EUR 1.5 milllion. The project is implemented by @UNESCO together with the City of Banja Luka. Congratulations to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina @CBBiH 🇧🇦 on launching the TIPS Clone instant payment system! The EU🇪🇺 is proud to support this milestone through a project worth €2 million. This step helps pave the way for BiH's future integration into the EU's Digital Single Market, including Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA) instant credit transfers. As more progress is made, citizens and businesses will benefit from even faster, safer and more efficient transactions. This is why it is so important for Bosnia and Herzegovina's SEPA application to be finalised. I call on the authorities in FBiH to swiftly adopt the necessary legislation, now that the RSNA has completed the relevant steps. 🇪🇺🤝🇧🇦

Great visit to Brčko District today! 🇪🇺🇧🇦 ​The EU's investments here help to support growth and opportunities not only for Brčko, but through strengthening transport connectivity increase the economic integration of the whole of BiH with the EU and the region. ​Brčko remains a positive example of respect between communities and cooperation. Meeting with the political leadership of Brčko District, I underlined that the EU is ready to continue providing support, but the level of investment also depends on decisions taken by political actors at all levels. The Reform Agenda of the Growth Plan remains to be implemented, representing a major missed opportunity for BiH. ​I met with civil society activists, who are a core component of ensuring healthy democratic debate and pluralism. ​I also laid a wreath at the Memorial to Civilian Victims to honour their memory. By remembering all innocent civilian victims, we reinforce our duty to build a peaceful, stable, and more unified future for everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
