Regardez ce que l’Occident est en train de faire de la Syrie. Ma mère est alaouite. Je connais la côte syrienne, ses montagnes, ses villages, ses plages. J’y ai passé tous mes étés syriens. La société alaouite de Syrie est une société méditerranéenne, ouverte, vivante. Et majoritairement laïque. Oui ca peut surprendre mais c’est le cas encore aujourd’hui. Les femmes alaouites y étaient libres, découvertes, modernes. À part quelques personnes âgées, je n’y ai presque jamais vu de femmes voilées. Encore moins de niqabs ou de burqas. Jamais. Et aujourd’hui, que voit-on dans cette même région alaouite ? La promotion du niqab et des vêtements islamiques féminins les plus rigoristes. À Tartous, cette jeune femme en niqab se filme avec deux petites filles elles aussi voilées intégralement. Quelle désolation pour des générations de femmes syriennes qui se sont battues pour leur liberté. Quelle douleur pour les femmes alaouites kidnappées, humiliées et forcées à se convertir. Quel drame de voir ces scènes en plein pays alaouite. Et tout cela n’est pas spontané. Ces campagnes sont organisées par des groupes salafistes liés aux milieux de HTS et soutenus par le régime de Joulani. Elles sont protégées par des milices de la « sécurité publique ». On distribue des vêtements rigoristes et des livres salafistes jusque dans les écoles et sur les réseaux sociaux. Et pendant ce temps, l’Europe finance ce régime. Oui, finance. Et Emmanuel Macron a été le premier dirigeant occidental à dérouler le tapis rouge au djihadiste de Damas. Voilà le résultat. Comment Emmanuel Macron, qui veut interdire les réseaux sociaux aux mineurs en France, peut-il soutenir un régime qui utilise l’argent occidental pour laver le cerveau des enfants syriens ? Les endoctriner encore et encore dans la culture du djihadisme de l’islam obscurantiste qui nie aux femmes jusqu’à leur existence ? A-t-il vu ou compris ce que ça a donné cette matrice avec les Talibans en Afghanistan ? Comment peut-on continuer à envoyer des milliards à un pouvoir qui laisse prospérer les rapts de femmes alaouites et la propagande obscurantiste ? Comment les diplomaties européennes peuvent-elles se taire face à cela ? Comment l’Occident ne voit-il toujours pas que ces réseaux salafistes veulent transformer la Syrie en laboratoire idéologique islamiste aux portes de l’Europe ? Et l’Europe paie cela ? La France paie cela ? Imaginez la Syrie de la prochaine génération. Une génération élevée dans le salafisme, la haine et l’enfermement des femmes… avec l’argent des Européens. À ce point-là, nos dirigeants ont-ils perdu la tête ? À ce point-là ont-ils perdu l’honneur ? À ce point-là sont-ils prêts à se soumettre aux pires ennemis de la liberté, de l’Europe et de l’Occident ?

This is no new phenomenon in Syria, but it's nonetheless horrible. The least they could do from their perspective, is treat this person as if they were mentally ill, and this shouldn't be the outcome.

I will end with an unrelated note: One is the impact of desertification. Damascus seemed to me much more arid than when I lived there before 2012. I realised that when I saw the difference after travelling to my home village near the coastal area and when I returned to Beirut. The Syrian capital, besides being extremely crowded and polluted, is also very dusty, its trees look grey, not green. Actually, you barely see the green colour in the city, and we are still in the month of March. I can’t imagine how things will look like in September. This is clearly the impact of many things but amidst the terrible impact of the war, it is concerning that we may not be realising enough the terrible consequences of climate change on the Middle East region.
