Sheriff Chad Chronister visited Deputy Muon and Deputy Daniels at Tampa General Hospital after they were seriously injured in a shooting in Ruskin earlier today. Both deputies continue to receive treatment for their injuries. “Our deputies knew the danger they faced when they answered this call, yet they didn’t hesitate to run toward it,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Their courage, selflessness, and commitment to protecting others embody what it means to wear this badge. They have a long road ahead, but they won’t walk it alone. We are standing beside them every step of the way, and we’re asking our community to keep them, their families and all of #teamHCSO in your thoughts and prayers."

A miracle before our eyes. Sheriff Chad Chronister visited Deputy Muon and Deputy Daniels this morning as they continue to recover from yesterday's shooting. Deputy Muon is scheduled for surgery today, and Deputy Daniels may be released to go home. These deputies put their lives on the line for our community, and their strength through this recovery has been nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for the prayers and overwhelming community support.

Sheriff Chad Chronister visited the Communications Center to thank our dispatchers for the incredible job they did in yesterday's events. As deputies faced a dangerous situation, our dispatchers stayed calm, relayed critical information, and helped get resources to our deputies when they needed it most. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do.

Deputy Colton Daniels Released From Hospital HCSO is pleased to announce that Deputy Colton Daniels has been released from the hospital following the deputy-involved shooting on July 16, 2026. Deputy Daniels appreciates all of the support he's received over the past 24 hours. "We are incredibly grateful that Deputy Daniels is on his way to a full recovery. 🚨#BREAKING: An off-duty firefighter is being hailed as a hero after he rescued TWO CHILDREN FROM A TEXAS LAKE WITH NO PULSE... ...PERFORMED CPR ON THEM AND BROUGHT THEM BOTH BACK TO LIFE ON TOP OF THEIR CAPSIZED BOAT!!!!! His name is Jason Horne. He was on Alvarado Lake celebrating the 4th with his 12-year-old daughter Emilie when people started screaming and waving them down. A boat carrying NINE people had flipped and THREE children were trapped underneath it. Jason immediately dove in to rescue them. Under that boat, he found a little boy, he saved him, and then dove back in. He felt a foot, it was a little girl and Jason tore her loose and brought her back, but she did not have a pulse. He dragged her ON TOP OF THE CAPSIZED BOAT and performed CPR until she began breathing again. He and others then flipped the boat and found a little boy with anchor rope WRAPPED AROUND HIS BODY. The boy also did not have a pulse, he performed CPR on the boy until he got a pulse. Astonishingly, ALL THREE KIDS SURVIVED!!!! Every single one went home to their families. His department said it best: "When others needed help most, Jason did what firefighters do. He stepped up without hesitation." A 12-year-old girl sat in that boat and watched her father dive into a lake and come back up carrying other people's children. She will spend the rest of her life knowing EXACTLY what a hero looks like. He looks like her dad. GOD BLESS JASON HORNE!!!!!!!🇺🇸

A Pakistani federal court decided this week to give custody of a 13-year-old Christian girl to a Muslim man who kidnapped, forcibly converted, raped and married her in August. Maria Shahbaz’s parents were devastated at the ruling Tuesday, after the two-judge bench of the newly constituted Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) rejected her official birth record and disregarded earlier judicial findings that the marriage was illegal. The ruling came in an atmosphere of intimidation as 150 male friends and family members of the rapist had arrived to the court to support him.  Justice Karim Khan Agha and Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi accepted Maria’s statement, which her parents and their attorney say was given under coercion, that she had converted to Islam and married 30-year-old Shehryar Ahmad of her own free will. “We were hopeful that the court would consider the girl’s official birth document (B-Form) and the sessions court order confirming that the accused had contracted an illegal marriage with a minor,” her parent’s lawyer stated. He also said the court had failed to consider that the girl had remained in the custody of the suspect for more than six months, increasing the probability of coercion. “The judges should have taken into account that she was likely to give a statement in the accused’s favor under duress,” he said. “It is deeply disappointing that the court did not provide a safe and conducive environment for recording her testimony.” The girl’s father said said his neighbor Ahmad had abducted his daughter when she stepped outside their home to go to a nearby shop. Human rights advocates say such cases follow a recurring pattern in Pakistan, where girls, some as young as 10, are abducted, forcibly converted and sexually abused under the cover of Islamic “marriages.” Victims are often pressured to record statements favoring their abductors, while courts frequently disregard documentary evidence of age and return the children to their alleged kidnappers as “legal wives.” In Punjab, Maria’s home state, the legal minimum age of marriage for girls is 16. At the national level, the Christian Marriage (Amendment) Act 2024 raised the marriageable age to 18 for Christians; however, if Christian girls convert to Islam, they are treated as Muslims under Sharia, which allows marriage at a younger age.

BREAKING: The President of Panama just terminated Panama's agreement with China immediately after meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The U.S. Army has announced that a Soldier who was Critically Injured while working on the Temporary-Floating Pier for Humanitarian Aid off the Coast of the Gaza Strip this Summer, died last week from his Injuries. The Soldier has been Identified as Sergeant Quandarius Davon Stanley, a 23-Year-Old with the 7th Transportation Brigade Expeditionary, stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Norfolk, Virginia.

Today is All Saints Day, a Day of Holy Obligation for Catholics and at Mass the priest gave a homily about St. Claudius and the “Four Crowns.” The father then went on to preach perhaps the best sermon I have heard in decades. (He borrowed from Henry V’s St. Crispin’s day speech so he had professional help.) He told the story not just of St. Claudius but also of the journey of his relics, from Rome where his body was rescued from the Tiber after his martyrdom during Diocletian’s terror, along with those of his colleagues, buried in Christian fashion, canonized, and then dispatched to England by St. Augustine at the direction of Pope Gregory the Great, to Canterbury Cathedral, then to France during Elizabeth’s purge of relics…and then to Virginia where they were on the Altar today. Remarkable. The Basilica of St. Mary’s was packed because it’s centrally located in the northern Virginia and it’s 12:10 Mass is concise and designed to meet the needs of people who work, and I doubt anyone there would disagree that this priest —I don’t know him— is the equal of any gifted homilist. What I also appreciated is that the good Father took time, for the benefit of our Protestant friends who may have been in attendance, to explain that Catholics do not worship saints but seek intercession and inspiration. If the Church could teach this skill and replicate this kind of preaching it would spread again as it did in the first two of its millennia. He must have worked long and hard on that sermon. “Find the good and praise it” is on Alex Haley’s tombstone (Lamar Alexander’s go to story in his 1996 campaign.) If you hear a great, great sermon, tell people.
