The way in which black-and-white and color mingled together in this film was different, but I felt that it served no functional purpose whatsoever aside from making you stop and say, “Ooh look, both at the same time!” I require a bit more method to my madness than that.

There are discernible elements of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Gremlins (1984) that were worked into the fabric of the film and I'd say they worked well. I could’ve done without the psychic link stuff, but I get why they felt the need to do it given what it represented.

I appreciated the various symbolic messages that this film delivered about how family dysfunction can be destined to repeat itself without the proper education and guidance needed to break the cycle. Tinja needs to learn to parent herself because she is the only hope she’s got.
